I got my braces off yesterday and whenever I have my retainers in, I have such a bad lisp. I got the traditional metal retainers and the orthodontist says I have to wear them full time for 8 weeks. But whenever I wear them, I can't speak properly. It's really embarrassing and I don't really know what to do to get rid of the lisp. The orthodontist says it will go away in a few days, but I was wondering if there's anything I can do to improve my speech while wearing my retainers. If you have any tips or any general retainer tips, please share them here! ๐Ÿ™‚

I would suggest maybe practice saying things so that you get use to them and eventually your speech will improve!

i havenโ€™t gotten my retainer but it was like that for braces. just like what artsyanna said, just practice. while ur doing things by urself, just sing a song or whatever. the more you do it, the more your mouth will get used to it.

I had a retainer before braces, it wasnโ€™t metal, but nonetheless, I had a lisp. Practice the sounds that are hard to make with it in, I personally talk to myself at an insane rate, so whenever Iโ€™m alone Iโ€™ll start talking, if youโ€™re ever alone or anything just start saying the words that are hardest, the more you say things the easier itโ€™ll get
