😂 I don't know how to start this so I will just get to the point:I think I might be non binary but I'm not sure how to know for sure 🤔 And then like if I am I feel like my current name won't really fit and I will have to find something else I want people to call me 😢 Does anyone have any advice? Or even just name suggestions would be helpful too |

Not non-binary personally, so this advice is based on very limited knowledge on the subject. Whatever name you settle on in the end, I think, is more important to be one you like, are comfortable with, and are happy to respond to. It doesn't have to be blatantly non-gendered/a name that would fit either a boy or a girl (because, honestly, the gender-association of many names have changed over millennia and are still changing. E.g. Did you know that Ashley was a perfectly normal male name in the 1800s?). It is also perfectly fine to have a 'placeholder name' or nickname you'd like to go by for the period you're figuring things out. Your friends would be more than happy to call you that (though they may unintentionally slip back to your 'old name' from time to time because that's how they first knew you and will take time to change, but hey, that's human). Lastly, it is also ok if you wind up changing your name/nickname another time (or a few other times) later on because you know yourself better and the old label doesn't fit as well. The multiple name changes may annoy some of your friends (because it's hard enough to remember most constant names as it is. lol. I know this because I sometimes struggle to remember names), but it's not wrong per se so don't feel guilty about doing it ever. If you're uncertain about a name choice, you could ask a trusted friend/family member to call you by it for a while and see if you like it. Kinda like trying it out for a while. And if you like it, adopt it! 🙂 |

Non binary here! First of all, gender identity is a constant journey- I’ve been out for 2-3 years (which in reality isn’t that long lol) and I still experiment with names, pronouns and all that fun stuff. So it might take you a while to figure out what you’re comfortable with, and you might be comfortable for several years with one thing and then shift to another- which is completely ok! Gender is a whole mess of stuff, don’t feel pressure to find yourself right away or whatever. First of all, @minutcraft had some really great tips! So I’ll try to go over some stuff they haven’t One thing that I know a lot of ppl to when they play around with names/pronouns is to ask friends and family to talk about them in the third person using specific names or pronouns. Ex. “Chaos zone is a really talented crafter! They’re very cool and epic. [more sentences]” //ps IMO this works better with compliments bc positive affirmation hits different when u find a set of pronouns that make u rlly comfortable// Names r a bit tricky, I honestly was rlly lucky bc I decided on a name before I got into the whole gender thing. Non-binary ppl have it hard bc we can pick names from anywhere- which is daunting and super hard! Some tips: - Take names from people you like. My name (Pendleton) is from the creator of one of my fav shows as a kid, I’ve always just connected with it lol - Take a name from characters you like or identity with //similar to above but function is valid!! - Baby name websites r FULL of different names! Certain sites also allow you to filter for more unique names, names with special meanings, names from certain countries, stuff like that. - There’s a big meme that non-binary people use names that are nouns- Pen, fern, arson, pigeon, etc. it’s o funny bc honestly it’s super true haha, so always something to think about! - Ofc, u don’t have to choose a gender neutral name! Plenary of non-binary people use more traditionally masc of gem names. Remember that non-binary just means you don’t fit into the strictly female or male category. Your name shouldn’t be restricted to those either! - If you like your birth name enough, you can just stick with that too! Another way to explore gender is drawing yourself as the opposite of your assigned gender or as something androgynous or something //this is ofc assuming you draw lol If not, you can also try stuff like piccrews or video games where you can customize your character. Remember that gender is a spectrum, you might not be agender non-binary (neither man or woman), you might be leaning more towards one or the other, or you could be both! And gender expresssion isn’t the same as identity! Man, I have more tips but it’s getting late where I am haha. If you need more advice feel free to message me! //sorry if this was wordy haha |
