So i’ve had this question and i’m not sure if it’s a dumb one but guess i’ll never know unless i ask… So sometimes i’ll discover someone is trans and like i legitimately didn’t know.. Is it bad to say that i didn’t know and they pass really well OR does that kinda trigger dysphoria?? I am a huge supporter of the trans rights and you guys are amazing!! I’m just so amazed that sometimes i’m scared that i’ll make u a sad potato… Please let me know if how to express that they pass really well or if that shouldn’t even be a thing to bring up

I have a trans friend and they've been told they pass really well as the opposite gender but they said they got offended by it, I believe they got offended because they don't like to be told they've passed as the opposite gender since they were that gender to begin with, hope this helped

@-Nobody- Thank you i’m actually really glad you let me know that! I don’t have much experience with human interaction outside my church which is like super homophobic and transphobic so i need tips.. Thanks ☺️

Hello! I’m a trans person myself so I might can help answer your question! (This is just according to my opinions and the opinions of other trans people I know) I generally think that “passing well” is a compliment for me if it’s said by certain people. If my friends say it, I’m fine with it. It makes me feel better actually. But if some random person said it to me I would be kinda weirded out. It really depends on how well you know that person I guess. I would honestly just stay away from complimenting how well someone passes. I know for some trans people, they want to be thought of as their gender and not “passing as it” if you know what I mean. Maybe try compliments like “you look great today!” or “you look handsome/beautiful/amazing!” instead! Also, thank you so much for educating yourself on the topic! Sadly, a lot of people are misinformed and end up offending or hurting trans people accidentally. You’re a great ally to the trans community!

@plant-dad Okay tysm for letting me know!! I really support trans rights but i don’t wanna hurt anyone so i really appreciate the help! My main goal is to make people comfortable and happy around me so im glad i kinda know what not to say lol And i totally understand that they are that gender not just passing as i just used to have a friend and he used to cry about not passing and that’s pretty much my only experience. But im really glad you let me know i’ll definitely use this in the future! Thanks again 🌸

You’re welcome! I’m so happy I could help! Dysphoria really sucks (I have it myself, but not all trans people do) and my friends have really helped me through that. Supportive people really make our lives better!
