Hi everyone! (Let’s hope I typed the names right haha), I just wanted to ask y’all a few questions about moderating! (Other users chime in with your own if you’d like) 😊

1. What is your favorite part of moderating or section to moderate?
2. What can the rest of us as users do to make your job easier?
3. How long have you been a moderator?
4. When did you start knotting?

Thanks in advance!

I have one question, how much time a day do y'all spend moderating?

1. What is your favorite part of moderating or section to moderate?
My favourite section to moderate is definitely the pattern section, followed by the photo section because I love seeing the creativity of the users!

2. What can the rest of us as users do to make your job easier?
Reading both the guidelines and the review notes carefully before submitting/resubmitting a pattern! Many times it could be avoided that a pattern needs to be declined simply by being aware of the fact that for example we no longer accept simple word patterns.

3. How long have you been a moderator?
I've been a moderator for about one year now

4. When did you start knotting?
The first bracelet I have made must have been around June 2007 because there was a tutorial in a magazine I used to read but between then and now there have also been long times when I didn't knot..

@awesomelgk
How much time do you spend moderating?
I would say several hours a day but I am unsure how many exactly. University is currently online so I am very flexible with my time but when we get back to in person classes, it will probably be less.

My favorite aspects of moderating is organizing and hosting the official challenges, as well as what I would call the customer service aspect, which involves helping you guys whenever you have questions or reports to be made regarding stolen patterns, other users, or situations that just generally involve communication with you guys and keeping the site safe and clean!

I also love the behind-the-scenes aspect when new changes to the site are being made, because it involves collecting your feedback, as well as each of the moderator's feedback when we're voting on something, or just generally helping @Admin with decisions!

I've been a moderator since May 28th of last year, but I didn't start actually moderating patterns until about around this time last year -  I wanted to make sure I thoroughly understood all the rules, because the terms for accepting vs declining a pattern were much different then and have changed a lot for the better, I think!

The first time I made a bracelet was when I was really little - probably around 7 or 8 years old - at my neighbors house with my childhood best friend, and it was the V-shaped chevron - or pattern #2! It brings back a lot of special memories about that time! It wasn't until high-school that I started experimenting with more difficult patterns, and it wasn't until around February of 2020 that I began really attempting to design my own.

Time spend moderating for me varies - when I'm having to decline a lot of patterns, moderating 50 patterns could take upwards to an hour and a half, or longer! But when accepting many patterns in a row, 50 patterns could take twenty minutes. I tend to moderate in chunks, so I'll go for lengths of time without doing it, and then I'll jump back in. It all depends on what's happening in the community or what kinds of patterns that come through in the review, and it depends on how much free time I have!

These are the easiest ways to help us:
1) When making a report, have your screenshots and proof ready to send to us!
2) Check the guidelines before submitting a pattern or photo if you're unsure about whether or not it'll be accepted!
3) When discussing a pattern or photo you'd like help with, describe in detail what it was (once an item is sent back to you, we can no longer view that item)

Thanks for the thoughtful questions!

hello hello! i would love to answer your questions!

1. my favorite part of moderating is moderating photos, because i get a lot of inspiration from seeing things that other users have created! i have found a lot of really fantastic patterns that i wouldn't necessarily have found otherwise through moderating photos 😊
2. as the others have pointed out, making yourself familiar with the review guidelines is one of the most helpful things that users can do to help out the braceletbook team! if we all are on the same page about what is expected for pattern submissions, comments, etc. it helps our community function more smoothly!
3. I have been a moderator since august of 2020, to my best recollection!
4. i started knotting about 6 or 7 years ago, around the age of 12, but slowly lost interest in the hobby. i rekindled my love for knotting in october of 2019, and the rest is history!

My favorite section to moderate is definitely patterns/variations. It’s cool to see the creative ways people change the colors of patterns in their variations, and it’s especially cool to see brand-new patterns! My favorite thing in general about moderating is getting to help out and contribute. I’ll sometimes spend quite a few hours moderating without stopping so that there are barely any patterns or photos waiting to be reviewed, which means that as I keep moderating, the people whose patterns or photos I’m reviewing only had to wait a few minutes!

The number one thing users can do to make our jobs easier is to read the review guidelines. Another thing users can do that’s helpful is to message the moderator who declined your pattern if you’re confused about why it got declined. It’s a lot more helpful and productive than making a forum post about it, which I see happen sometimes. Using the review notes is also super helpful, because then we can know if a user has changed a resubmitted pattern since it was declined, if a certain aspect of the pattern was intentional, etc.

I’ve been a moderator for around ten months, and I’ve been knotting for close to ten years.

@awesomelgk I usually moderate for around an hour each day.

1. What is your favorite part of moderating or section to moderate?
My favorite section is probably the patterns section, people submit some really beautiful patterns and it's great being able to see them first. Another aspect of modding I really like is picking patterns for weekly challenges. I like featuring lesser-known patterns, a lot of times they become some of people's favorites.

2. What can the rest of us as users do to make your job easier?
It's a no-brainer, but please read the decline messages! Also, please feel free to use the review notes section to ask us questions or give us more information. Don't feel like you're being rude if you have questions about why we declined something or if you disagree with our decision.
We also appreciate you telling us about website issues, like rude or inappropriate users, duplicate or stolen patterns, issues with website functionality, etc.

3. How long have you been a moderator?
I believe I started near the end of September 2019. I remember becoming a mod shortly before my birthday (October 6th).

4. When did you start knotting?
I think it was around 2011, I was about halfway through fourth grade.

@awesomelgk The amount of time we mod varies, we aren't required to do a specific amount of modding. Personally it varies a lot for me depending on how busy I am, but I try to get some modding in when I eat breakfast and lunch. It's a lot easier for me to do when I'm on my computer vs. on my phone.

1. What is your favorite part of moderating or section to moderate?
My favorite sections are probably the patterns and photos sections. I'm constantly amazed by the talent and creativity of BraceletBook users! 😍

2. What can the rest of us as users do to make your job easier?
Please read the decline messages for patterns and variations, and please read the Guidelines! We also always appreciate reports of inappropriate comments/users, stolen patterns or duplicate patterns, and glitches/bugs with the site and app. Our ultimate goal is to make BraceletBook a safe and supportive place for everyone to express their creativity. 😊

3. How long have you been a moderator?
I've been a moderator since October 2019

4. When did you start knotting?
I'm actually not sure. I've made bracelets on and off for about 13 years, but more seriously since I discovered BraceletBook a little over 2 and a half years ago.

@awesomelgk

I spend several hours a day moderating. Sometimes I'm multitasking, taking care of my aging parents or also working on a website (not bracelet-related) that I do research for. 😉
