Hey! So I'm starting my freshman year of high school. I selected my classes but I can still change them. My problem is I chose a lot of difficult classes. So for anyone in high school(passed freshman year), does this seem like too much? AICE Language arts AICE international history Geometry honors Biology honors IT fundamentals Spanish 1 (elective) If it is too much for my first year what class do you suggest I change to normal? Please reply soon because I have a limited time to switch classes! |

it does look like a lot. especially since next year imma assume that ur gonna be stressed because of the new covid placement. but it does with all the honors classes and imma assume that AICE is some sort of advanced placement class. i have friends that took advanced history it was took up like 30% of their work

Assuming that AICE is an advanced class, I'd say that your best course of action probably depends on what the rigors of those courses are like at your school. If you know any upperclassmen, you can ask them about which honors classes typically come with more challenge. For example, I recently changed my senior year course requests to not have a college-level english class (which would have been a hUge workload) because I realized I would be doing too much and would not survive, especially with the extracurriculars I participate in. Counselors (or whoever puts together the schedule) are great resources for this too. If you think that your schedule will in fact be too time-consuming (it is only your freshman year after all) and decide that you want to take fewer advanced classes, I'd eliminate the courses that you are less interested in because you'll be less likely to want to do the work involved. However, if after talking with people at your school, you feel like you can handle the workload, I don't see why you shouldn't challenge yourself in coursework if that's what you enjoy doing. Good luck out there 🙂

@Caramel04 Thank you for the advice! I talked to a friend who graduated and she told me about the difficulty. I also talked to my counselor and I understand how difficult the classes are. They do seem quite difficult but I feel like I would be able to do it! Thank you again (:

I think those are really good classes to take! Its good to start taking advanced classes imo it helps you out more in the long run. It might be a big workload esp while getting used to high school but if youre prepared for that and ready to work hard then go for it! Hope you like writing essays lol and good luck!

@ale66 Yea! I was told to take a lot of advanced courses in my freshman year and sophomore year because my junior year would be stressful with SATs and ACTs. Hopefully I’ll get used to writing essays 😅 Oh and thank you for the response! |

@LucyLuFay When I'm choosing my class, I think about what future I want. I'm not going to college and heading into the workforce after high school so the class I picked for my senior year are much easier than my previous years of schooling.

You should change one of the classes for a fun one. Like art or theater. That’s what I did! I’m going in to freshmen year with the normal math, ela, and science, healthcare science,pe (I had for get pe ugh) and then my fun one is choir! You need to have at least one thing you enjoy (that doesn’t give hw)

Personally... this is how i did it my freshman year.I learned what types of classes I actually liked and had fun with, which was English, and Spanish. I took advanced classes in those, and On level or regular for my other classes. Since i know there would be more work for those classes, I evened it out with simpler classes that I could do well in, but not put as much work and time into. I know a lot of people are worried about their GPA and you should, but it shouldn't be the end all be all. If you want to take a class that's interesting or higher up, go for it! But i suggest you see how the advanced classes go, figure out which ones you like, and only do them for the next year. High School can get harder and harder and you have to find a balance. Personally I knew that my rank in my person HS wouldnt really matter all that much to me, and I'd rather get ahead school wise, so i went for a dual credit program. I took college courses that counted both for college and high school and knocked everything out at once. As for your AP classes, or I'm assuming advanced classes, a lot of it is going to be readings, papers, and discussion. You are going to want to get the syllabus and know whats coming up. I wouldnt say its going to be easy, but you can help yourself out by staying on top of things and PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. Most of the content that comes from the test and quizzes come from whats being done and said in class. If you can pay attention in class and make connections during it, you won't need to study for a HUGE amount right before the test day when you have 4 other tests you have to study for. Do the work then, and it'll pay off later. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Questions are how we get answered and a bet 30% of the other people had that question but were too afraid to say it... just because you are in an advanced class does not mean you're expected to know it... although some teachers might expect it... idk why though. anyways. I hoped that helped, if you have any more questions, feel free to message me. |
