To everyone scrolling through: I'd like to point out that effectively *nobody* is citing sources for claims that aren't personal experiences. Please take that into consideration before you accept what a stranger on the internet says as fact.

I understand that some people are against getting the vaccine because of the lack of testing and knowledge. But... so far the side effects of getting the vaccine have been very minimal and last for 1-3 days. However, the side effects of getting COVID last very long in some people. My aunt was one of the first people to get COVID and she still has to use an inhaler and her sense of smell isn’t the same. So, if you are eligible please get the vaccine as soon as you can. It will help everyone get back to normal sooner. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe!😁

@GenMalucci I didn't even respond to you directly, nor did I mention you or your family, and I am not discounting any tragedies that have occurred in your life, whether they may be the result of the virus, the vaccine, or something else. I pointed out that people (of which you are actually included but are not the only one) are not citing sources for claims *that are not personal experiences*. Especially because we are in a global pandemic here, broad, sweeping claims about whether or not vaccines are safe need to be supported with scientific evidence. That's all I said. There's a fairly large young audience on this site that isn't going to fact check anything from either side because they don't understand the importance of that, which is why claims need support.

I think that people should get the vaccine if they are able to, but I totally understand why someone wouldn’t want to get it and I don’t judge anyone who doesn’t.

Also, I hear some people saying things like “I got covid and it wasn’t that bad, but the vaccine has bad side effects” but that’s not how it is for everyone, you could spread it to someone who might get hospitalized or even die if they get covid or have long term side effects. And the only side effects I’ve heard of are having a sore arm, feeling tired, and a few other side effects that only last a day or two. But I understand that some people might not be able to get the vaccine because of having very bad side effects from them in the past or for other reasons

I'm perfectly okay with wearing my mask and staying 6 ft away from people. I trust the vaccine to do what it needs to (and i don't believe the whole it causes abortions things, that's stupid) because that's its job and i trust the people who made them, but i would like to wait and see what happens. vaping was suppose to be a good alternative to smoking, and it was short term, but now we see how much harm it does. plus i don't want to get the vaccine and have an allergic reaction. when i was around 7 i got the flu vaccine and got really sick because of it (now i do the nasal sprays) and it made me allergic to one of the things in the vaccine and now i can't be on certain medications. i would like to wait and see what the long term affects are of this vaccine before i get it |

@Scavenged completely understandable! they ask you or should ask you before you get the vaccine if you are allergic to anything, including medications. or if you have had a reaction in the past to any other vaccines.

It has been tested! The reason they came out with it so quickly is because scientists already had done the research, I’ve gotten both doses and I’m fine, also the Johnson and Johnson one caused blood clots, however they were VERY rare.

I’m going to add to what I previously said. Almost like a re-comment. I have an insane fear of needles. So getting an unknown substance injected into my arm is kind of horrifying to me. My grandmother recently had some bad side effects from it, and from who I have talked to, the side effects aren’t good. I used to get vaccines and I got sick soooooo often. Now I don’t get vaccines and I’m on my third year without serious illness. I would love to feel secure and know I won’t get it. But the way my body reacted to other serious viruses I think I would be fine in the end if I got Covid. Everyone’s bodies react differently and I don’t think mine would react well from previous experiences. There are no long term testing. How will my body react at 6 months after vaccine, a year after, two years, three years? There is no answer to that.to add to what others have said, look at other vaccines, and artificial things people have taken. Stroke, heart attack, blood clots, death? For something that isn’t long term tested, I will be waiting until a healthier option comes up. 🙂

@GenMalucci oops didn’t see your second message! I was just saying that I know it won’t change your mind, but if some day you ever consider getting it but are too scared of the needle, it may not be as bad as you think! I know you’ve had bad reactions in the past, though.

@Elise64 I’m horrified of an unknown substance being injected into my body. Needles have always terrified me for that reason, and I think when I was younger my social anxiety made me scared of the doctor. Cause seeing someone in a white jacket, masked, gloved, and holding a needle doesn’t seem pleasing 😂

@GenMalucci 😂 I totally get that, I used to be terrified of needles too! Sorry if I sounded like I was pressuring you to get the vaccine because that wasn’t my intention at all (:

As somebody above said that nobody added prov, I'll add a link here for background reading: https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-johnson-aborted-idUSL1N2LU1T9 Feel free to research for more background reading yourself. To quote from that article: "Social media users have been sharing posts online that claim the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson contains aborted fetal DNA as an ingredient. This claim is false. While the vaccine used lab-replicated fetal cells (known as fetal cell lines) during its production process, the vaccine itself does not contain any fetal cells." And this as well: "The Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines used fetal cell lines in their testing stages. Johnson & Johnson used a human fetal cell line called PER.C6, developed from the retinal cells of an 18-week-old fetus aborted in 1985 in its production and manufacturing stages. Fetal cell lines (not fetal tissue) are sometimes used in the development, confirmation or production process of making vaccines – including the COVID-19 vaccine ( here , here ). These fetal cell lines are not taken from recent abortions, but are derived from decades old fetal cells (more detail on this here ). These cells replicate over decades in laboratory settings, thousands of times removed from the original fetus cells, becoming known as fetal cell lines." Please note, I'm not judging people who decided to have an abortion for whatever reason, but abortion is something I personally don't want to support/take advantage of, no matter how long in the past it happened. |

If nothing else, people should at least ask their doctor if the vaccine is safe for them. It is very easy for misinformation to spread online about vaccines, and given the politicized nature of this whole situation, most discussion online are just going to devolve into shouting matches. At the very least your doctor should have an ear to the ground about the safety and risks of the vaccines, and they would know your medical history best as well.I;m definitely getting my shot when the time comes, because for me the risks of bad reaction to COVID outweigh any potential side effects to the vaccine. Plus I really just want to get back to traveling. |
