I would recommend to talk to some kind of professional like a therapist or searching for some resources online. This is what I found on this website:https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/trichotillomania/ "Treating trichotillomania Trich is commonly treated using a type of CBT called habit reversal training. This aims to help you replace a bad habit with something that's not harmful. Treatment usually involves: -keeping a diary of your hair pulling -working out the triggers for your hair pulling and learning how to avoid them -replacing hair pulling with another action, like squeezing a stress ball -loved ones providing emotional support and encouragement Things you can try yourself Here are some tips from people with trich that may help when you feel the urge to pull your hair: -squeeze a stress ball or something similar -form a ball with your fist and tighten the muscles in that arm -use a fidget toy -wear a bandana or a tight fitting hat, such as a beanie -come up with a saying that you repeat out loud until the urge to pull passes -take a soothing bath to ease any stress or anxiety -practise deep breathing until the urge to pull goes away -exercise -put plasters on your fingertips -cut your hair short Getting support It may also help to open up about your trich to people you trust, as hiding it can sometimes make your anxiety worse. Many people who have learned to manage their trich say that speaking to others about the condition led to a reduction in hair pulling. The charity Trichotillomania Support has information on treatments and self-help advice." Here is the link of the charity mentioned: https://www.coaching.care/trichotillomania/ |

hey @obieeggs ! i don't have trich i have dermatillomania, which is similar, except it's skin instead of hair. i'm 18 now and i have been dealing with it since i was about 10 years old. i know how hard it is to manage, and i know for many people it can make us feel unlovable etc because it affects our appearance - just wanted to remind you that's not the case and we are cool and these conditions don't reduce our worth as people 😄but yeah anyway - the main thing i think, is figuring out what actually triggers you to do this. for me (and most other people as far as i know) it's from anxiety, i tend to do it more when i'm anxious. it's really important to try and take care of yourself, for example if school really stresses you out, please treat yourself to a day off if you feel too anxious, and things like that. if you have a pet play with them, play video games if you like them, just take time out of your day to relax when you can! 🙂 in terms of physically coping with things and alternatives, bubble wrap might help, or if you can get a cheap blanket or something with fur on, you could pull hair out of that so it directly mimics the feeling. i'm not great with advice but this is the best i can come up with on the spot right now, i really wanna help 😄 hope you're okay <3 |

Hey I also have trich but I pull out my eyelashes. I saw a action therapist and it helped. I also always have a fidget with my wether it be a squishy or putty. That’s actually why I love bracelets so much they help flirt my mind off the tick and keep my hands busy but I would recommend to see a therapist for it

I’ve had it for a little over 3 years maybe more, my parents figured out about it because it was obvious for me since it was my eyelashes. They started off by saying “just stop it already” but then they asked what I wanted to do, and they gave me reminders so talking to your parents or trusted friend about it
