i know that this post doesn't really fit into this forum section but people seem to check this section a lot. anyways, I started the normal part of my alpha-normal and the colors are pink and black (#50538) and the alpha is black and white (#82259 and yes i know it isn't the same amount of strings as the normal, i altered the pattern a little bit) but in the pictures and videos I saw, it showed them doing the thing where you knot onto the leading string with the base string. Do you have to do that or can you add in another string? my second question is, the normal isn't a mirrored pattern, so at the end theres more pink knots. Can I put the pattern upside down so after the alpha the part with more pink is at the beginning of the second normal, not the end?

If you mean that people were using the two tone alpha then no you don't have to do that. Once you get to the alpha part you stop knotting with the strings from the normal and add in a new leading string, if you need a new colour for the alpha part you add it in like you would in any regular alpha.
