@LoveAlphas I just recently got over a fear of doing backtucks on beam after splitting the beam. I had my coach stand there, and I added a beam expander, and told myself I AM DOING THIS. Not, I might do this if I feel like it once I swing my arms and set, but I’m going back and flipping. I envisioned it, and then I went for it. It was so hard to go backwards, but it felt so good after I did, and I knew I was gonna be fine! Also, I have a “Art of Gymnastics” journal with entries in it that help with fear, I recommend one of those. Another thing that helps is to not be so hard on yourself if you don’t throw it first time after having a scary accident like that! Progressing back up to beam, with mats on low beam, low fat beam, low beam, high beam with porta pit under, high beam with spot etc after an accident will help build your confidence back up!

@LoveAlphas I recommend doing exactly what sprinklez said. Just start off lower to the ground (like on a line on the floor or something) and just work your way up. You also just have to understand that it won’t be a one day thing. Getting back from falls is really hard because you have to deal with mental blocks and things like that. I bailed out of a roundoff back handspring tuck like a year ago and I couldn’t even bring myself to try one for like three months. So just be patient with yourself. If your coach wants you to do it but you don’t feel comfortable, just let them know. It’s really just about taking your time.

@nev_m_07 Thanks, I have trying to remind myself that it won't happen in a day, but I am worried my coach will be mad at me because he wasn't the one who saw me fall and has no clue about it.

@LoveAlphas I think you should probably tell him because he’ll understand. Just know that he’s probably seen falls way worse than yours in his time coaching. If you tell him, he’ll be able to help you better and he’ll be more patient with you.

@LoveAlphas Hey! I had a big fear after we were quarantined and it was VERY hard to over come. I know this sounds babyish but I had a fear of doing a round-off back handspring. After quarantine me and my teammates were working to get out round off flip flop back tuck back then one day when they went for it and got it back I didn't want to fell left out so I started to go for it but then everytime I tried I didn't even connect the back handspring and ever since then I was scared to do it. It took about 6-8 months to over come. With a bunch of help from my AMAZING coach, shout out to you Erin, I finally could get over it. I really needed to stop this fear because started not liking floor and not wanting to go to gymnastics because of it. Then like 3 weeks before my first meet of the season my coach gave me a new tumbling pass, which was front tuck round off back tuck, because my fear wasn't getting any better. So since then I have loved my new tumbling pass and have gotten over my fear even thought I don't do a back handspring I still do a round off back tuck like during warm up! I know that this was SOO long but I just wanted to tell everybody out there that you can get over your fears even if it takes forever! I am so happy that got over mine because now I look forward to gymnastics and floor is one of my favorite events! I hope everyone has a good rest of their day!!! Bye!!! 😊

@chloecknot I don't think it is babyish but at practice tonight my coach told me that it probably will take a while to get over my fear but to try and forget about how I got scared but think about how I could overcome it. Thanks for sharing your story, sometimes it is scary to share your fears!

@LoveAlphas thanks for being so nice! I feel like having that fear happened for a reason because I love my new tumbling pass so much better. And you know what I had no anxiety writing that because I wanted to share that story with all of the gymnasts on here so they can know that you can beat any fear that is in your way if you just try! 😄

@a25 I recommend learning a bridge kick over first (if you haven't already) Then learn a backbend kick over (which is faster than a bridge kick over) Then find someone to spot you on the real thing so they can lift you off the ground and you don't collapse on your head. And after that just keep practicing pretty soon it will be very good! Also after you mastered the skill remember to keep you legs straight and everything tight. Hope this helps!

@a25 I agree with chloe said, but I’m going to add on. I think you should warm up some back bend kickovers and then try to connect the backbend and the kickover. Since a back walkover is a more fluid version of a kickover, it will also require a bit more back flexibility. You really have to get your shoulders under you and shift the weight onto your wrists to get your legs over since you’re no longer kicking into it. To put it into simpler terms, you have to use the rocking motion from the backbend as your momentum. I recommend maybe trying a back limber to get used to this, which is like a back walkover with 2 feet.

@a25 I would also say to practice bridge rocks, where your are in a bridge and rock onto your shoulders and then go back into the regular bridge position. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9irrNiYLt8k Here is the best video I found , sorry it says it it for pre-preschoolers, it was the only one I found. Ignore the words and you can just watch her rock to see how to do it. This will help when you are up side down and kicking over. (copy and paste the link)
