The first things that people envision when I tell them my state is surfers and palm trees on sandy beaches. My state has a several famous cities that a lot of people fantasize about living in, until they find out how expensive they are. Summer is hot, with temperatures ranging from 90-106 Fahrenheit, summer is also wild fire season. Fun times. We have the coolest flag in the whole country because the design is pretty atypical for other states and even countries. My state has both mountains and deserts within its borders, and is usually in a drought. We also have some of the best universities in the country, both public and private! Really good schools for a variety of disciplines! We have a huge variety of cuisines from around the world, ranging from Asia to Latin America to Europe and even Africa in some cities. In my area, there are a LOT of Asian restaurants, especially Vietnamese. The population is just as, if not more diverse than our restaurant and food options. My state is very often romanticized and idealized, and those fantasies only really exist in the big, well-known cities. Most of the places I've been to out here are either somewhat urban or primarily suburban. The cost of living is also quite high, especially in urban areas. My city (not big city, but like urban area) and many throughout the state are mostly upper-middle class, with some neighborhoods actually upper class. Additionally, my state is known for its decided political stance, my state is definitely left/democrat, and isn't afraid to let other states know. We're almost known for being a hugely democratic/leftist state. TL;DR: people think of surfers and beaches, lots of famous and highly-desirable cities, summer = wildfires - at least a few little ones each year, best flag in the country, mountains and deserts with nearly perpetual drought, excellent universities (public & private), very diverse in food and people, romanticized and idealized but it's quite expensive to live here, lots of urban areas/smaller cities with upper middle-class and upper-class residents, definitely democratic state - very liberal, politically. |
