Hey, I am going on my 3rd year of learning Latin and honestly, I hate it. However for the degree I want I have to know it. What are your thoughts on it? Is it an important language to learn? Do any of you guys learn/have to learn Latin? Do you guys enjoy it? |

hi! i took latin from 8th-11th grade, and i honestly really liked it! it is a very difficult language to learn because very few people, if any at all, speak it fluently, so it is difficult to have conversations with. i personally think that latin is important because it's the foundation for so many languages, such as the romance languages (italian, french, spanish, etc). also, lots of english prefixes, suffixes, and roots come from latin. so learning latin will help with your english vocabulary, and it will help you learn more languages, if you are interested in that! i am not sure what field you are planning to go into, but i know that a lot of medical terminology and law terminology come from latin words. i don't see myself going into medicine (but maybe law idk), but i'm sure that whatever field i'll be going into will involve latin in some way! my favorite part of learning latin was learning latin grammar and vocabulary. translating latin texts is fun but very difficult, especially texts i had to translate in AP latin (the aeneid and de bello gallico mainly). my least favorite part of latin was learning about roman history, mainly because there are so many kings and emperors and wars, that i could never keep up with what was going on 😂 but anyway, i hope that helps, and if you have any more questions about latin, feel free to tag me here or message me! 🙂 |

@arf820 I am planning on going into medicine, even though I have been told that I argue well, and I should go into law 😂 a bunch of my family members are doctors and I am hoping to get a degree in medicine/doctoring too. Latin is an interesting language and I have no reason to hate it I just do, it’s very interesting and I have gone onto learn the Romance languages one by one. (I learnt Italian and French) I have to agree! Roman history is hard to keep up with. My favorite part of it is when I understand the chapter even with the random comments about Roman history. My least favorite part is the prep work for each class, and when people take a sip of water and I can hear them swallow on the microphone 😂 I’ll message more later, but I have to finish my Latin of the day

Personally I think that it’s a dead language. It really depends on what you want to go into and where you want to live/work. If you’re going to be traveling a lot it may be a good language to learn. If you want to be able to figure out what certain words are (in English, Spanish ect) since it is the base of so many languages instead of having to memorize term after term. I know that there are a lot of medical terms that are easier to memorize and understand if you know Latin so it probably is a good language for that but otherwise probably not really worth learning. Good luck on getting your degree!

Latin is my favourite language, I love it really much! ❤️❤️❤️ But I understand if you don't, it's your opinion and I totally respect it. Idk, I am learning it because I love it and for one other reason I won't explain here. In my opinion it's an important language, especially if you want to study medicine or law (I am also really happy to read that you learnt Italian, my language). I read in your bio that you are Catholic (I am a curious person who reads everyone's bio), there are beautiful prayers in Latin! Maybe that's an incentive for you to keep learning it 🙂 I am sorry if I messed up with English
