Hello everyone! I don't know that much about these pronouns, so I was hoping those who do could somewhat enlighten me? The bracelet community is so kind and sweet and I really don't want to offend anyone by calling them the wrong pronouns. For example, when I'm crediting someone's pattern when posting on my Instagram, I'm afraid to say "he" or "she" or "his" or "her" because I don't want to offend them! Is it okay to just always say "their" or "them" when I don't know? Or can that be offensive too 😭 😭 😭 Send help s'il vous plait ❤️ 😇 |

If you can’t figure it out, then I don’t think they would be offended by they/ them. They are more likely to be offended if you misgender them. |

i personally always use they/them for when i don't know someone's preferred pronouns. i wish more people would put them in their bio so i could gender them correctly. i'm so afraid to misgender ahhh.

use they/them if you dont know! i once accidentally misgendered a kid at school (my friends insisted that it was ok because i didnt know they were nonbinary and it wasnt to his face) and i felt guilty for a few hours so its good to use they/them to avoid any embarrassment! im always embarrassed about silly things ❤️

as @hummusboi and @sadnymph said, you should always be safe using they/them for someone when you don’t know their pronouns. it’s always best to ask them if you get the chance though! not enough people do this, and it gives everybody a chance to share their pronouns!

@plant-dad Thank you! Could you maybe explain what the pronouns are? I think what I think I'm trying to say is, what would she/her, for example, mean compared to he/they? Something like that. And are there more pronouns other than she, he, and they? I'm just really curious as I've only recently started noticing them and really really don't want to make anyone upset. More knowledge can't hurt!

that’s great that you’re trying to learn! but pronouns are what you use to talk about somebody without using their name. so for example, my name is adam, and if you were talking about me but didn’t want to use my name, you would say “he isn’t coming today.” since i use he/him pronouns, you would use “he” in place of my name. that goes the same way with “they” and “she” for people who use those pronouns. and pronouns have a lot to do with someone’s gender identity (that’s why they’re so important!) when you use someone’s correct pronouns, you are communicating to them that you respect their identity! also, there are more pronouns than she, he, and they! these would be called neopronouns and some example would be ze/zir, xe/xem, and fae/faer. you would use these in the same way as other types of pronouns. for example “ze is not coming today.” or “have you seen xem anywhere?” if you have any more questions, i would be happy to answer them 😁
