Ok, I am not just being mean to my mom I am just asking for advice. So I just got "grounded" the punishments are that I can't talk to my friends and I can't make bracelets. Again I am not trying to be mean this just does not seem right to me. Like bracelets are technically art, right? Like that is telling an artist not to paint stuff or telling a baker not to bake bread 😂. Am I right about this or not please be honest! |

Idk what you’re being punished for, but yeah I don’t get banning someone from their hobby unless it was related to what they did wrong (like not doing homework/focusing in school because they were doing bracelets). But even then it would probably be more constructive to let them have access to their hobby in exchange for bettering their behavior (maybe “Do some work for a while/go to class and then you can have your bracelet stuff”)

My parents do the same thing...they take away anything that entertains me or I have fun doing. My mom says that grounding isn't supposed to be fun and is supposed to be miserable so you don't do whatever got you grounded in the first place again.

Honestly to some extent I think limiting hobbies like video games and tv is completely okay but something like bracelets is kinda just stupid also my stance on parents not allowing their child to communicate with any of their friends for long periods of time is not intentionally abusive it’s just damaging to self esteem and mental health because it will throw you into a depression because you can’t talk to anyone

I’ve never been grounded (besides when I was small for cutting my hair) but what I do just in case anything were to happen is I keep like emergency stashes ig u could call them of bracelet supplies. So it’s 5 ziplock baggies and each one has Each color of the rainbow plus black white brown and gray A prepped keychain with 16 base strings plus the pattern Enough string for a 20 string bracelet with multiple patterns as options Needles to undo knots Tape Scissors And I hide them around my room so if my parents take all 5 of my string boxes I will have more to use and won’t be bored 😇 |

When I het grounded which isn't very often (honestly like once every two years) I get my bracelet supplies taken away and no electronics

Hmm. I think that is kind of weird. Bracelets aren’t something your parents have to pay for like lessons for sports, (unless they buy your thread.) I would get it if they said no to something like lessons you have to pay for but making bracelets? Well anyway I’m sure your parents have their reasons

Uh, yeah. You are right...that's kinda unfair. Taking away a phone or contact from freinds for a while I guess I could understand. But taking away a hobby? Especially cuz bracelet making is just soooooo dark and sinister 😉 . I think @allialexis has the right idea with a bracelet string "emergency kit ( 😂 )" Hope you get ungrounded soon!
