@Deer-Teeth thank you! I actually do have a question (and anyone else who sees this is welcome to answer as well), but what exactly does demisexual mean in your opinion? In my experience I've learned that it can mean a person only experiences physical attraction to someone else once they've been emotionally close to that someone. But I could be wrong, and I'd love to hear other people's input, whether it's a correction of my statement or just something to add

@llama1013 in my opinion it means that you only gain attraction (or the wantingness to be in a relationship with that person) after there is already a bond in place. So if you're really close friends, or its someone you've gotten to know for awhile and have some sort of bond with that person, that's usually who you end up with because you only gain the want for a relationship with that person after the bond, whereas someone can get a crush or like someone based off of their features, or about hearing some thing's about them (i.e. celebrity crushes. lots of people fantasize about being in relationships with them even though they know nothing about them). Another thing too, if you don't like the idea of online dating (things like Tinder or Bumble) because it doesn't feel personal could be a hint at this label. So say I were to identify as Demi. I wouldn't scoodle with anyone unless i knew them and had a really strong bond. I don't want a relationship with someone because they're hot, or I've heard lots of good things about them or have had a couple good interactions. I would form a wanting to be with them (sexual or not) when I got to know them as a person and spent a good while creating a bond. A very close, special bond you only get from spending lots of time with the person, like you might have with a bff another thing with demi is the main thing that separates it from pan, since a lot get the two mixed up. pan means you're attracted to anyone no matter their gender, but demi can mean that you're only attracted to the same sex, or the opposite, etc. so like Asexual, its an "add on" and is more conforming to you than pan is. I don't really know all about that label since I haven't dug deep into it and asked people who identify as such, but from what I have seen that's what it is to me? but I could be very wrong with all of this!! |

@Deer-Teeth Thank you!! I don't think you're wrong, everything you've said pretty much sums up what I've seen as well.I never thought about the celebrity crushes example before and it's definitely giving me a better understanding of this. I very much relate to it.. I've always found it hard to understand when people have celebrity crushes. I was talking with my boyfriend a couple months ago and he mentioned his celebrity crush, and I was basically appalled that he even had one. The idea that he actually liked a celebrity was so foreign to me, even though I've heard of it a million times. I don't really find people "hot", and when I'm even somewhat attracted to someone (which is rare) it's usually because I find them cute or beautiful; I strictly see those people as pleasing to the eye, not to any other senses. I've obsessed over bands and artists before, many times thinking they're cute, but for the most part I've never been actually attracted to any of them. As for online dating, I've always considered it weird. It repulses me that people search for a "soulmate" or "partner" based off of looks. Yes, there are ways that you can connect over similar interests (i.e. "I like hiking") and personalities but that still seems bland and useless to me. I've been in two relationships before, both where I knew the person for a while beforehand. And I was only attracted to them once I had been dating them for a couple of months. I've wondered for a while if I identify as demi and I'm definitely considering it now after talking with you. There's a lot of signs that point to it. Thank you so much for your input!! I really appreciate it 😁 |

@llama1013 its no problem at all!! that sounds like aesthetic attraction!!! there are a lot of different types of attraction, a few being: romantic attraction, platonic, sexual, and aesthetic!!! what you just described fits into that. You think people look good!!! You like that!!! You like the 'aesthetic' of that person, but aren't wanting a relationship with them or anything or have a crush. if you want you can do a little more research into that to help you get a better grasp on that!! and yeah, online stuff does seem weird, you're not alone in that lol |

No @Mary_E good Christians should love other people and treat them with kindness. Being homophobic would contradict that but there are indeed homophobic Christians but I believe that not all of them are. 😄

@Mary_E nope!!! the only homophobic scripture that I have been able to find in the bible has been proven false. People interpret the bible differently, and when translating the scripture can either do thing's to a literal extent (to where it doesn't make any sense to native speakers) or they change it to match their beliefs. There are many scriptures in the bible that supports all aspects of the LGBT+ label!! so if you were to follow the bible the proper way and go through every bit of it, there isn't any reason to be homophobic, others are just taught that. Even though I am no longer a christian I come from a very religious family and none of them are homophobic. I was raised on scripture that said it was okay!!! it really just depends on what your personal belief is and what you're taught 🙂 |
