I used to do horse back riding a few years ago. My coach named her horses really interesting names lol. After every practice, we would get otter pops or some kind of sweet treat. I absolutely loved the farm because there were always cats, dogs, goats, and horses just running around. I never knew how to tack up the horse though because there were so many buckles and stuff to remember. I think that really annoyed the coach cause someone would always have to help me. It was my dream to compete in a competition, but that never happened. One story I have is that one day our coach let us go to the special field for jumping. I had no intention of actually jumping though because all of them were really high and I had only done small jumps before. However, after a lot of pressure, I finally decided to try it. I was terrified and I ended up jumping without looking up. The horse hit the bar and I fell off on my shoulder. My arm hurt really bad for a few weeks after. I was completely scarred and I didn’t want to ever jump again. My coach said no real horse rider hasn’t fell less than a dozen times, but I think she was just saying that to make me feel better. Moving on to a good memory though, my coach had an apple tree and we could pick out apples to feed the horses. I loved giving the horses treats all the time. I also loved washing them down and cantering was always my favorite thing to do. I never liked trotting though 😂. I have so many memories there and even after I fell off the horse, I still love horse back riding. I don’t think I’ll ever get back into it again, but if I ever have the opportunity to ride a horse, I probably would do it. Wow I wrote a lot 😂

@oceanknot Thanks for sharing! I completely understand where you are coming from about being scared to jump after falling. I once had a pony buck me off in the middle of a schooling show. I wasn't actually doing a jump at the time but I was headed in the direction of one. After that I was pretty scared and had to do a bunch of flat lessons before I was able to jump again. Though on a positive note I totally agree that cantering is the best. One of the ponies I ride has a super smooth and fast canter and it's the best thing ever. I also love giving horses treats and give them peppermints after every lesson. What names did your coach give the horses?

Some of them had normal names like Coco and Lavender, but the ones I rode were named Sassy, Crawdad, and Opie. And yes, horses LOVE peppermint. I never knew that until I did horse back riding though.

@oceanknot Those are cute names! I rode a horse named Nana once but other than that all of the horses have pretty normal names. And yes horses really do love peppermints! One time I went to give a horse a peppermint but he had a lot of hay in his mouth so he literally dropped the hay onto the ground so he could take the peppermint.

Oh wow lol. I also remember that we would always give the horses some weird green treat. It was kind of grainy and in the shape of a cylinder. I have no idea what it was called or what it was made out of, but they loved it.

I love horses but sadly, I do not have any. One day though I want to own my own ranch and have a least one horse named moonshine!

@PastelPony I totally understand! I also don’t have a horse of my own but I really want one. If I got a mare I’d name her Athena and if I got a gelding I’d name him Spirit.

@oceanknot I think I know what your talking about. I’ve seen a few people at my barn bring treats like that in. And yeah, the horses love them! Horses are such food motivated animals.
