Hi! I used to crochet all the time. Specifically amigurumi. There is lots of videos on youtube on how to start for beginners. I personally like to work in cotton yarn because i find it easier but acrylic yarn is good too. Feel free to message me if you have any questions! Good luck! |

Hello! I love to crochet! I learned to crochet when I was 9 years old . I learn mostly on YouTube. There are a lot of beginner tutorials on YouTube. Channels I recommend to watch are Jayda in Stitches,Crochet Crowd and Bella Coco. Materials I used are crochet hooks, a yarn needle and yarn. I like to use Red Heart Super Savor but there are plenty of different brands of yarn and different weights. I would start though with worsted weight 4 yarn with a 5.5 millimeter crochet hook. If you are confused feel free to ask me anymore questions 🙂

Hi! Yeah there is a lot of patterns. So basically patterns for crochet are written and they tell you when to do what stitch. A really good website for patterns is red heart yarn. Or you can just look up easy crochet patterns. Hope that helps😊

I learn how to do something similar to crocheting in a craft kit by kiwi.co. I dob’t remember the name, but it a kit in the doodle creates and it helps you make animals and literally provides everything you need. It is a good kit to teach you the basics.

Learning to crochet was sort of a process for me bc im left handed. So my mom taught me how to chain but she couldn't teach anymore than that. Months later I grabbed a book from my elementary school library (I was probably in third grade?) and tried to learn from the book. It didn't work because the book was for right handed people. UNTIL!! I put the book in the mirror so the pictures were flipped and I just taught myself from the pictures. Then since I had a handle on what I was doing I could look at the book or follow videos abt different stitches or patterns. Now (I'm in 4-H) I've won grand champion in my division for the crochet project at the county fair multiple times. Looking back on it I think that it would've gone much better if I had just found a video for left handed people but oh well. Plus I can do it both left and right handed now. So I would recommend a video or a book with lots of pictures in it. As far as patters go, I definitely use books way more than I do the internet. Lol sorry for my long-winded story, I hope you learn soon! It's so much fun!

Oh and one more thing! I wouldn't recommend using super crazy yarns until you're confident in your stitches. I usually work with a 2, 3, or 4 weight yarn and I think it's fun because you get to see regular to tiny stitches! Once you get the hang of circles doilies are super fun. Just make sure that your hook size matches yarn size. The pattern will usually tell you what size hook and yarn you will need. For basic learning id just get a worsted weight yarn and a hook that's either an i, j, or maybe even k. Also the stitch gauge I think is what it's called is SO important for patterns!! I never payed attention but I wish I had because I have had so many things come out the wrong size because my tension was too tight bc I didn't pay attention to the gauge.
