Hi swimmers, I want to know how long you’ve been swimming, what your favorite event is, what your favorite stroke is, sprint or distance? Or anything you want to talk about!

I swim but only on a summer team. I have been swimming for almost 4 years. My favorite event is the medley relay and the 50 fly. People think I am crazy when I say this but my favorite stroke is fly, and I like sprinting better than long distance. Also I don't like swimming in pools I'd rather swim in rivers and ponds.

I’ve been swimming competitively for about 6 years or so, my favorite stroke is breaststroke. I like doing relays of any sort because it’s fun with a team and I like IM and 50 breaststroke. I am way better at distance than sprinting

Also, I have 2 problems that are definitely a swimmer thing, so - when I swim free, for some reason my legs really cross and it annoys me so much and I try to fix it but it just still happens idk. Second problem: I’m in the pool all the time, but I am allergic to chlorine. I know how crazy that sounds, but.... it is true. My skin is very sensitive and I went on trip and got into the hotel pool, but it was really over-chlorinated and it gave me a reaction my eyes really burned after and my skin broke out, stomach and back, with these bumps like eczema. Now, I deal with this a lot I in the pool but to a lesser extent. My skin gets super dry and for a while my scalp was really scaly and flaky, that’s fine now tho. Do any of u have this problem or use anything to help you skin or hair?? Also srry that was really long

I am very bad at swimming and I just want to learn 😭 it is so awkward cuz I am literally in the level 2 class with all the little 6 year olds 😂 the main reason I can’t swim is because I am so scared of accidentally breathing in water and drowning 😭 I also have trouble moving my arms, moving my legs, AND needing to breathe out and put my head back up. I can do most things, but they make me do the backstroke in my swim classes and I get so scared, and you have to try to jump in the water at the end and I am in 4 feet water, it’s so scary! I’m just scared of not being able to get back up, does anyone have tips? And I can’t even IMAGINE jumping in like 9-12 foot water I would literally jump in, get so scared and faint in the water, and die 😂😭

@Elise64 Ok, I totally get that, a lot of people have that same problem. I would recommend spending time in the shallow end, where you can easily touch and just swim there for a bit. Once you can swim comfortably in the shallow end, you will have no problem in deeper waters. To learn to breath and not worry about pulling in water, go to the shallow end and put your head under the water. Hold your finger out and just blow from your mouth like you are blowing a candle out. I know this sounds crazy, but it’s how i learned to be underwater and never get water in my nose. Just go slow and I’m sure you’ll get it! ❤️🏊♀️🏊🏽♀️ Oh, and remember that water isn’t working against you, it’s just there and you can control it. This concept helped my friend get over her fear of water 🙂

@adelaide0f thanks! that helped, but the problem is that the shallowest area at the place i have swimming lessons is 4 ft probably because its at a college, and if i go to the other pool thats near me there's way too many people 😐 and the place i have swimming lessons i dont think is free to just go there to swim, i think you need to have lessons. I actually forgot that i went to my friend's pool once and was scared to go to the deep end, and then i went again during the day with all my friends there and i ended up going in the deep end not getting scared! I just am scared to just swim and put my head underwater when i am in the deep end and there is no way i can jump in there 😂

@Elise64 hi, lifeguard and swim trainer here 😄 from what i saw there are two main things you need to practice before you can progress further: opening your eyes under water and breathing out under water. If you can do those two things you'll already feel a lot more secure and it's easier to make progress.Other things that can give you more security and a general better understanding of swimming is practicing to float (it shows you that you won't sink even if you don't move) and to glide (it's a main part of swimming and it helps you save energy). |

Hey Y'all!I have been swimming competitively for ten years (I'm 16). My favorite events are the 200 Fly, 200 Back, and the 400 IM. I also like the 200 Breaststroke. I'm definitely more of a distance swimmer than a sprinter. I also lifeguard and am a swim lessons instructor. My best strokes are fly/back, then breaststroke, then freestyle. I swim high school and club. |

I've been swimming since 5 (13 now) but i had a gap in between. I've got 11 diplomas (idk the english word) but i stopped now since i didnt really like the groups anymore. I have no idea what the strokes are called in english but my fastest stroke is front crawl (if thats a word), and my resting is the one on your back with only your feet. I get pretty nauseous from the front crawl so after maximal 4 tracks i have to stop...
