Hi! So last night I had to take out my earrings and put the ones from the original piercing. They feel fine now, so I think it was an allergic reaction. I'm not completely sure though. I changed my earrings at 8 weeks. (they said 6-8 weeks) I changed them to nickel free Target earrings. Do you think it was an allergic reaction or just from changing them too early? Also if it was an allergic reaction will I be able to wear the Target earrings again? When will I be able to change my earrings again? (Meaning like 1 week, 1 month, or when it's not red anymore, ect.) Thank you!

So claires has this earring cleanser which is really good. I use it to clean my ears after I take my earrings out. Sometimes my ears on the back will get small cuts from the backings they don't hurt and normally go away. Maybe depending on the type of earring/backing you used it could be an allergic reaction but it could just be the fact that the backing rubbed your ear.

Well mine never do that. But I'd suggest wait either 3 more month or better a whole year. But really in the end it ur choice 🙂

I don't think you changed them too early. I was recommended changing them at 4-6 weeks, I took them out at 4 and they were fine. I didn't even clean them with anything fancy, just salt and hot water because that is what I was told. However everyone is different and maybe yours is taking longer to heal. If your ears are all gunky then I think you should be concerned, however if they are just red I don't think that is too much to worry about, although it is odd that you had a reaction to nickel free earrings. I had some earrings that when I first wore them my ears were all read and itchy, they are nickel free, but when I wore them again I was fine. So maybe try other ones in a few weeks, it may just be that pair of earrings or it's that it needs longer to heal.

@Knots_EM So do you think if I change them in a few weeks (December 1) it would be fine? I think I will just ask my Mom everyday what she thinks then when she gives me the okay (which she said should only be about a week.) then I will try another pair from that same set again. If they get infected again I will just wait until they look fine again then try earrings from somewhere else.

@KnotsEM It wasn't that bad. My dad said to wait 3 months but my mom said we could probably change them again in about a week. (my dad does not know anything about ear piercing, he once pierced my mom's closed up ear she screamed)

Sometimes your ears just aren't used to having the earrings as you begin to wear them your ears will adapt I am not sure if this makes sense however just wait a week or two and then try wearing the earrings again.

@Knots_EM @2006_Mandy @Cake-44 Thank you!! I don't know why, but braceletbook always solves all my problems 😂 😂 I guess it just makes me feel good writing my things down somewhere and having people help me and get different opinions.

You may have an allergy to the nickel that is found in most earrings. I, too have this same problem (in fact it just happened yesterday when i decided to put earrings in for the first time in months. The nickel in the earrings irritated my ears so now i will have to invest in some gold or silver earrings so that i can enjoy wearing earrings. Another thing is that you have to wash the earrings before you put them in your ear, even if you have worn them before. Earrings can attract bacteria that can infect your ears. I recommend cleaning your earrings and the piercing with some rubbing alcohol to really make sure they are very sterile and that bacteria won’t enter the piercing. Infections are common with piercings, so just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get too bad. Cleaning it with rubbing alcohol might sting a little, but it is the best way to get rid of any bacteria that could worsen the infection. You also shouldn’t touch it as there are many oils and bacteria on your fingers that can also worsen it. Hope this helps 🙂

Ok, so if it is an allergic reaction, but you are allergic to a pair of earrings that you really like I reccomend putting neosporin (idk how to spell that) on the earring before putting the earring in the ear. I am allergic to a bunch of stuff and found that really helps.

I’ve found that if you clean your ears with rubbing alcohol it helps. That’s what I do and I haven’t had any problems

@bsoftball Sounds like an allergic reaction to me, personally I'm really unlucky and can't even wear gold. Use a saline solution for your ear, it'll help to clean them. Also, make sure your hand is clean before touching your piercing.

I have odd ears, and I can't even certain types. Yes Claire's has the best earrings. Stainless steal is what works best for me (or at least that is what i think it is). Also you can use rubbing alcohol, saline solution or hydrogen peroxide to clean and help your ears out. I am supposed to get a 2n piercing this coming week and one of my ears is infected. I haven't been wearing earrings and it has helped a ton!
