How do you feel about ratings?

Just wanted to hear some other people’s opinions on giving lower ratings. In the past I’ve only rated patterns I love and given them 5 stars, but I’ve seen people in the comments get called out for giving lower ratings. I think the ratings are important, as that’s a good way to search. However, I know we also have a lot of younger members in this community and it’s important to not discourage them when they make patterns. How do we walk this line? Can we give lower ratings to a super simple pattern or a pattern that we think isn’t good for the community? I’d love to hear more thoughts.

I think that if someone intentionally gives a pattern a lower rating (I know sometimes it is an accident), then they should also provide some feedback. They could say what they think could be improved upon. I think the constructive criticism would be less discouraging than just a one star rating.

Some people give controversial patterns a low rating just because they don’t agree with it and I hate it 🙁 I don’t have any but people argue in the comments a lot and I don’t like it

Not as in I don’t have any patterns, I mean I don’t have any controversial ones

i never rate patterns poorly intentionally but it's so easy to press on the wrong number of stars... I also don't get why ppl rate patterns poorly on purpose like why

I’ll I think people should be able to be honest. Of course like someone said, give some feedback. I mean even the younger members should get to understand that everyone is not going to like what you have created. I think everyone should be honest but also respectful and kind when it comes to ratings on patterns

I think that giving lower ratings should be okay, again, as long as the person provides feedback/constructive criticism.

This may sound off-topic, but you know how if you do a video call sometimes they ask you to rate the quality of your call? And then after you do, they ask you what could be improved? Yeah, they should have that for patterns. If you give it a less-than-five-star rating, there should be a little box that pops up where you can provide feedback!

i think feedback is important. cause randomly getting a one star rating kind of sucks when you don’t understand why
