Happy bonfire night! I made s'mores. Usually we would go to a fireworks display but we can't do that so just s'mores and listening to other fireworks.

@acv_foto95 long story short, a group of Catholics tried to blow up the houses of parliament which had the king in it because the parliament were protestant. They got caught and we celebrate this by lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks.

@acv_foto95 I can kind of see what you mean, but I don't feel like it's celebrated in a way that it's hugely signifigant to our country. At the time, in the UK,there was a lot of religious tension, I won't explain it all as it covers the whole Tudor period, how it was shaped and the religious tension later in history, so I think it was more celebrated as a "Yay the king wasn't killed!" and and a warning to other plots, as the members of the plot were tortured and the Guy Fawkes (the most famous in the plot) was hung, drawn and quartered. Nowadays, we just celebrate it in a fun way, and based on 4th of July seems to be celebrated, it's a lot less extreme, but a lot of fun.
