Some people suggest advertising your bracelets on Instagram. It sounds smart, but I don't want to waste my time if that doesn't work. Does anyone with a successful Etsy shop advertise on Instagram or any other social media?

Hello! I am sure I am doing the whole etsy thing wrong, I only have 7-8 sales and have been around for almost a year (but, I haven't been active on it for the whole time). According to my etsy stats, I have only had like 3 page views from Instagram, and I have 650 followers (I'm @Knot.crazy). With that said, I have received a custom order or two with Instagram, but it's mainly just a fun side thing that I do. 🙂 I'm sure if I worked on it harder I would generate some more success, but I'm just like so busy with school and stuff so yeah... Hehe

I have an Instagram account for my bracelets. I don't have etsy, and I don't sell online either. but within the first day of having my account, 3 people were asking if they could purchase bracelets from me (idk how... I had about 15 followers and 3 pictures uploaded...) Since then I've had so many offers that I've had to decline (probably 30ish?). I think if you want to increase your sales, you have the time, and are interested and commited to maintaining an Instagram page, it's worth it 🙂

KnotCrazy and polkadotty: it seems like you have totally different experiences with instagram. I don't think I'm going to make an instagram.

In the past, as in before Instagram I was heavy into twitter. I had a personal twitter and a business twitter. I made sure I was very active on my personal twitter and then would tweet every now and then retweet on my personal to gain followers on my business one. I would also ask friends to retweet. Then I would have sales and giveaways and to enter you had to retweet and follow, effectively creating a larger customer base and upping my sales. So social media does work if you use it right and it can take time but I highly suggest two separate accounts and daily activity and pushing.

Oh that sounds cool. So do you suggest facebook, twitter, or instagram for buisness? I don't really need personal one.

I think it comes down to personal preference. Like for me I wouldn't use facebook because I use facebook to play games when I'm REALLY bored and finding and staying in contact with people I haven't seen in a while. It's not somewhere I feel like I should be 'pimping' my crafts, I don't add people I don't know. To me it doesn't reach the audience I would want it to, and you also face 'spam restrictions'. If facebook sees a link come up too many times in a day it will deem it 'spam' and won't let people post. So for spreading the word I don't think it's that great. I personally would stick to Instagram and Twitter and here's why: Instagram: people can easily see what your product looks like, there's a messaging system for easy contact and people have access to it basically everywhere through their phones. People who do purchase can post and tag pictures promoting your store. Cons are: 'regramming' isn't easy, people need to upload an extra app and it's not something you'll see unless they tag you directly in it. You can't see what pictures other people have liked, so unless a picture is tagged and posted on another page it doesn't move anywhere. Twitter: Has a picture feature for easy viewing of your product. Twitter is also essentially a messaging system in itself but it also has a private messaging system for extra contact, it's easily accessible as everyone has it in their phones. People who purchase can easily spread the word to their followers by posting pictures as well as retweeting. Retweeting is easily done and tracked and can cause things to trend which in turn gains followers. Cons: A lot of people 'don't get it' or 'can't see the point', so there's a wide audience you can reach but also a small gap you can miss out on because of that. You are also limited in the amount you can write in your posts though not a huge problem as users are used to this type of structure. Ultimately though, you have to have a drive to sell your product. If you don't have the drive no amount of social media accounts will help. You need to give daily interaction if you're going to depend on social media to boost your sales. |
