Pattern for "temperature blanket" style bracelet

Hi everyone, I have no experience with designing my own pattern, so I'd like to ask around here 🙂 I would like to make a year-long alpha weave with a corresponding color for each day and separate symbols for each month. Last year, I did a simple "one stripe per day" pattern, but this year I'd like to change things a bit. I found a beautiful image from someone doing this as a cross stitch pattern where she had 12 cats sitting next to each other. However, I would like my pattern to be from top to down, and cats on top of each other seem a little weird. So I was thinking something like a vine with leaves, or maybe birds, or butterflies, or beetles, or maybe stars. Thing is, each individual symbol (bird, flower, leaf, etc.) has to be up to 31 lines, and I'm not sure how to do this. How large should my symbols be, then? Probably depends on the individual pattern. I'm not sure if I can link this photo. This is such a cool idea, but wouldn't it get super long. 365 rows is a lot. Couldn't it be split up in you doing multiple days per row, if you want it to be a bracelet? Or do you not really want it to be a bracelet?

365 would also not even be possible to post as a pattern on braceletbook. The maximum of rows you can do is 200.My idea would be to make 12 individual bracelets, one per month with the cat or whichever design you pick in the centre. This way you would be able to fit the design completely easily. |

If you do twelve individual bracelets, you could have some element that connects all the patterns so when you lay the bracelet next to each other it forms one image. If you do cats or birds they could be sitting on a branch. |

Hi,Thank you! Ohhh, cats on a ladder, what a great idea! I will tinker with that a bit! I would not submit a full 365 pattern, only two repeating, so about 60. The colours vary each month anyway 🙂 |

I was more thinking that it is not feasible as a bracelet. Are you planning to do it as an actual bracelet or something else like a wallhanging?

Ah, I understand. No, it's supposed to be a wallhanging. I have no idea how to crochet (that's how most of the temperature blankets are done), and such a big project is scary for me. A small few knots, however, are easy for me 🙂

Sure, go ahead! 🙂 I use Wunderground to select the temperature of my city. Wunderground has a "history" feature, so you can go back into the past (some people make a temperature blanket for their birth year, for example)Currently I'm looking for suggestions and input. I will attempt to draw my own pattern and then share it, I just had no idea how I could arrange my wall hanging to my liking. After all, it's a year long project I'm commiting to 🙂 |
