Quick measurement request for anyone who makes alphas

Hello. I've only ever made a few alpha patterns, and I probably did those ~8-10 years ago, so I don't have any alphas lying around to do this myself.I would like to make a tape measure/ruler pattern (like #42928 or #29305), but I am unsure about how accurate the patterns are. I've looked at the comments on these pattern to try to figure out which one would be the most accurate. For the first one, some people say that it's accurate (or mostly accurate, depending on your knot tension and string size), but one person said that it's about 2 times bigger than accurate. This could be because of tension differences, string differences, or maybe this person was just expecting centimeters (1 in = 2.54 cm). No one knows whether the second pattern is accurate, but it has lower ratings, so I'm assuming it's less accurate. My request: Don't worry--you don't have to make every ruler pattern and tell me which one is the most accurate! I'm just hoping for someone to measure one inch (or cm, or even mm, whatever you're comfortable with) on an alpha bracelet that they've already made, and count how many rows it took to create that much length. I'm hoping for more than one response so I can average out the differences due to knot tension, string size, etc. but I would appreciate even one response! Thanks in advance! |

i like your idea to calculate averages, it's quite clever and i'll happily make my contribution as soon as i have one of my alphas and a ruler on-hand.measurements will be influenced by both the tension and thickness of string that are used by people. if you have the time to, i would suggest that you create a small pattern yourself (perhaps a keychain using some scrap string?) and use that to determine how large your own knots/rows turn out. besides i've heard you mention that you don't have too much experience with alphas - practice doesn't hurt 🙂 |
