How would I add more colours to this pattern , I want to add a forth colour but don’t know how and how I would lay the strings out. I made the pattern after watching Alex’s video on youtube but want to make it bigger with more colours. But how ?

How many strings do you want the pattern to have? I can help you figure out the pattern number and you can add a variation with the amount of colours you want.I think the string order should be something like abababcdcdcd |

Hi, I would like to make it using four colours to start with and then with five colours. I made it using a shaped sloped start and knotted in same way you would with a candy stripe.

So I guess that would make it at least 16 strings maybe more. As would need at least 4 of each colour.

The only way to add more colours into a normal pattern if you have started it with less colours is to do a colour switch and substitute some of the strings with a string of the new colour.MashaKnots has a video on colour switches in normal patterns. They work sort of like the colour switches in alphas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR0QALBTLMc&t To make pattern 81 with four colours your string order has to be abababcdcdcd Since 12 is not dividable by 5 if you want to make it with 5 different colours you could for example do 3 times colour a, 3 times colour b, 2 times colour c, 2 times colour d and 2 times colour e. You could for example do the string order abababcdcdee. If you want a pattern with the stripes having even thickness you could do 10 strings: pattern #770, string order ababcdcdee 15 strings: pattern #7838, string order abababcdcdcdeee 20 strings: pattern #1421, string order ababababcdcdcdcdeeee, this pattern would be perfect if you indeed plan to make a colour switch from 4 to 5 colours half way through because 20 can be divided by 4 and 5, for 4 colours the string order would be abababababcdcdcdcdcd |

Or do you want to make two bracelets? One with 4 colours and one with 5?

Yes one with 4 and one with 5 colours, the similar sort of pattern to 81. With same style of pattern, plaid/ scottish tartan type thing. Thanks for the help. I will look at those pattern suggestions and see if it would suit me.

At one point I checked and I think there is a plaid pattern like this for all string amounts until at least 20 strings so I can definitely give you pattern numbers for the specific patterns that are like pattern 81 but with different amounts of strings but you also don't really need a pattern because they all work the same way. Just like the candystripe or the chevron you can just adapt it to any string amount you like.

I think I’ve worked it out now, with how to add extra colours to the pattern. It’s the same just with extra strings in each row with 4 strings of each colour that I want to use. Thanks.
