Hey! So I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for picking out thread colours when making bracelets, I'm really bad at colours and colour schemes and when I think I have it right and start to make the bracelet it looks horrible! If anyone has any tips id love to hear them or just how you pick the colours for the bracelets you are making

I usually have a certain thing I'm making the bracelet for.... So for example, when I made a bracelet that said "Colton Dixon" (excuse my obsession; he's a Christian singer. He was on American Idol) I made the bracelet the colors of his album. If I'm making a normal pattern, I often make it the colors of a band/flag/book series--whatever. For example I read the Inheritance Series (Christopher Paolini) and became obsessed with them. And the colors of the four books are blue, red, gold, and green. So I used those colors in a bracelet. Another thing you could do is use the colors you see on the pattern or another pattern you like. Then you would know what they look like together. Sorry I'm EXTREMELY wordy. Hope this helps! 🙂

There's a website that has colour schemes on it, I'm sure if you google it you'll find it, and there's tons of colour schemes and ideas on there.

I normally just close my eyes and pick however many colors and see if they go 🙂 but then I also search cute bracelets on Google and screen shot ones that have cute colors

The primary colours always go well together and immediate derivatives off of that. So like red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange. You could also try monochromatic colour schemes so if you're using red you could use dark red, bright red, orange, deep yellow, bright yellow. You could also look at what colours can turn into each other like go red into hot pink, into a purple/pink into purple into dark purple into dark blue into lighter blue etc.

I have kind of "rules" to choose the colors:- If there is a "background color", I use neutral colors such as white, black, beige, brown... - I never use complimentary colors together (I know, samiksha said the exact contrary) - Sometimes I decide to use only warm colors or only cold colors. - When I make a bracelet with different shades of the same colors, I try to put them from the darkest to the lightest to get a gradation - To make a beautiful effect, you can choose tone on tone colors or shades of the same colors and make a contrast with one other color that will do a big contrast. (for example, make a bracelet with pale colors and use black strings to make a contrast) If you don't have inspiration, you can just take a look around you to take your inspiration from stuff around you that look beautiful 🙂 |

If you arent sure if certain colors will look good, take each of the strings and twist them together. If it looks good, you have yourself some chosen colors 😉

Some bracelets have set color schemes already, like I'm doing a m&ms bracelet and the pattern is in the colors of classic m&ms.

I just kinda look around me for pretty color combinations. Like right now, my blanket is white, purple, green, and blue. Those would look fabulous on a bracelet! I also ask people or take inspiration from favorite teams or whatever. Sometimes I'll also grab random bags of thread from my collection (I have different skiens shoved into bags organized by color) and figure out what looks good together from there.
