Has anyone used wax string instead of embroidery floss for a alpa pattern? Did it turn out well?

I've worked with wax string before, but I've never tied alpha patterns with it. Personally, I wouldn't. Waxed string is stiff, and it's hard to get your knots tight enough when your string is too stiff.

Waxed string is stiff and after awhile the wax will turn white and flake off

I use nylon crochet thread it's freaking awesome! That's the kind of thread the professional bracelets from fairs and swap meets are made of. It's actually not waxed; nylon is kinda shiny and can be burned and finished into a nice tapered ending. I personally think it's way better than embroidery floss (nicer finish, bracelets last 10X longer, and easy to untangle and comes in nice little spools!) and cheaper in the long run (I only have to buy string once a year!) if you're gonna use it, try Omega, Artiste, or Redheart Sizzle; the first two brands are from Mexico, and the Redheart brand is one of the first to be made in the U.S. Oh, and make sure you use size 2 thread!
