Switching colors on alpha patterns. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Whenever I start making an alpha it’s going good. Then I have to switch colors and it gets all jumbled and messy. The actual picture or design on the pattern is not connected to the background color. If you can please help

I would recommend looking at youtube videos for help. Marsha knots has a great beginners tutorial on youtube. Also, make sure you're using the same size string as well as pulling the knots tight enough, but not too tight to mess up the knot.

I had this same problem! Lets just say your background color is white and you are doing forward knots with the white and you need to do 2 knots of green for knots 7 and 8. You take the green string 7 and tie a backwards knot onto the white string. Than you move on to string 8 and do the same thing with that green string. Sorry if that doesnt make sense.
