Hey, I'm from Brazil and recently got really into making friendship bracelets. I still have some doubts about material, though, because I bought a 100 pack o embroidery floss from ali express (as it was the only place I found such variety) and right now I feel like the thread isn't the best quality. DMC or any other united states option is quite expensive and difficult to get for me, so I would appreciate some help. Anyone has any good option of thread that can be bought online (and preferably isn't sooo expensive)? Maybe even from Ali express, but with better quality. I know there is a lot of people in Brazil that makes friendship bracelets in the beaches and all, so I was wondering where they get their floss from... That's all, thanks for now! 😊

Hi @shokunin! I just wanted to pop in and say that you definitely won't get banned for speaking Portuguese! 🙂 While it's easier if everyone speaks English, especially for us moderators to moderate comments and content, we usually don't remove forum replies or comments or anything in other languages at the moment. Actually, it's quite difficult to be banned in general, as we really try not to be doing that. It's really only for chronic rule breaking behavior or inappropriate usernames, or if someone asks to be. If you've not gotten any official warnings for anything, you need not worry at all. 🙂 If you ever have any questions or concerns about any of the rules, you can always message any of us mods anytime! 🙂

I've heard good things about Sullivan's thread. It's smooth, and I believe separates into 6 strands similar to DMC, so it's great to make micro/mini bracelets with, if you'd happen to be interested in that. I've also heard some nice things about Anchor, but it's a bit difficult to get where I am.Cotton is the preferred material for most people when making friendship bracelets, although some kinds of acrylic can be decent too. With acrylic, it very much depends on the brand. Some people also use knitting and crocheting yarn for friendship bracelets as well, because yarn for clothing garments can be a lot cheaper to buy than embroidery floss, however, that type of yarn can also be on the fuzzier side because of the way its woven. Embroidery floss is made to be used for tiny details with cross stitch, so good quality embroidery floss isn't supposed to have nearly as much fuzziness as yarn for making garments does. I'm not from Brazil, so I can't say for certain what's available for you, but I hope this info is helpful in some way. 🙂 |
