Hi guys! I have tried 3 brands of string and here are my thoughts. Please add to this topic with ur reviews of different brands! My first ever string: ??? From Target Ok so I started making bracelets in like June after coming home from a summer camp and so I asked my parents for thread so we went to Target and my mom got me a small set of cheap embroidery thread. Price: uhhh like between 3 to 11 dollars (USD) id guess, for like 36 things of thread Brand: ????? I thinkkkkkk it might be Threadship from DMC but the little thread holder things are white and yellow and just say "Friendship Thread" and I can't find it anymore on the Target website, another reason I think its Threadship is cuz the size and price of one of the Threadship sets I've found on DMCs website match and it comes with little white plastic bobbins with these yellow-orange rubber bands keeping them together which matches what I got with my set soooo its probably Threadship but I cant confirm Rating: 4/10 It does what it said it would do. Its ok string, but I have had a couple of issues with it breaking (ripping? tearing?) in the middle of a bracelet, particularly when undoing knots. But that hasn't happened often and its just mid. It has something I've noticed with a lot of cheap strings, Bumps(?) in the thread, not uneven-ness, but like the twisting of the smaller threads in one normal thread is much more clear. An example of that is Loops and Thread (https://www.michaels.com/product/embroidery-floss-value-pack-by-loops-threads-105ct-10377900) which ill be getting into soon, but if u zoom in on the phtoso of the thread in sets it will look smooth like DMC but go to the ones of bracelets made by it and zoom in on the thread. Particularly in the ends is the best place to see it, its not smooth like it seems in the first couple of photos instead its kinda uneven made by seemingly two larger strands. Thats what this string has, its not bad but lower quality. The color consistency isn't great, even between colors that are meant to be the same its not quite it Fraying: Not really, its fine, gets fuzzy but does not fray at the ends Shine: Nope, none not at all Recommended for: Children and people who just want to make a couple of bracelets and then be done Photos: My pic of #2 Loops and Threads by Michaels Price: $20 for 105 is pretty good!! Rating: 7/10 Fraying: Nothing major and I've used it a lot, gets a little fuzzy after a lot of pulling but no fraying on the ends Shine: Honestly pretty shiny, I think its cuz its synthetic Its fine, its better then the Target one but its not great. I have not experienced ripping and it has solid strength. Pretty good color variety and I appreciate the duplicates in packs for easy refills. Has the uneven-ness from two strands wrapped together issue so its not great quality but its solid, pretty good. Good basic string but nothing special, kinda low quality. The color consistency isn't great, even between colors that are meant to be the same its not quite it, also they have very few dull colors, like every color is super bright which is ok but I want some darker less saturated colors Recommended for: Beginners and people who are mid serious about making bracelets and plan on making quite a few Photos: My pics of: #175455 #12146 #174120 #174186 #6165 #126311 #145017 #168521 Last but CERTAINLY not least.... Artiste Cotton Floss by Hobby Lobby ๐ ๐ ๐ BEST OF ALL rating: I want to give it a 10/10 so badly buttt its not perfect so unfortunately, 9.999999999999999999999999999/10 Shine: Medium, not as shiny as Michaels bt still a good amount Price: $10 FOR ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY Fraying: My only peeve from this! The thread DOES NOT get fuzzy but the ends DO fray, its not terrible but worse then the others. Overall its just the best string. It looks like DMC (though I have unfortunately not had a chance to test DMC due to price), feels soft but doesn't get all fuzzy, strong have not had any issues with ripping, it does not have the weird unevenness of the two combined strands thing, and LOOK AT THAT PIRCE half of Michaels yet even more string! with, in my opinion, better colors! Ugh the colors are SOOOOOO rich and consistent I love it. All my future string is prob gonna be this Recommended for: Anyone and everyone who wants to make bracelets Photos: My pic of #159554 If you have any questions ask away! Also please add you reviews of different string brands to this topic!! |
