1.Instead of using floss for base strings you should use crochet thread. Reason. Crochet thread is more durable than floss and craft thread. It may be thicker but I found that my knots always turn out super good when using it instead of floss. I also think it makes switching colors easier because the thread doesn’t move much. 2. Never cut your string. Reason. Cutting your string can make alphas very messy. You want to try to make the alpha as clean as it can be and if you cut your string you would most likely have to constantly add more. 3. Use plastic bobbins Reason. This one is probably the most important. If you use paper bobbins it will crumple your string. Plastic bobbins also feel more secure to hold. 4. Mark the placement of your loop (if you make one) Reason. This one is kinda hard to explain. Once you have half of your base strings, fold them in half. At the top there should be a loop. Mark both sides on the loop. Doing this will give you the perfect size for your loop. 5. Don’t use too much tape. Reason. Some people may think the more tape, the better bracelet. But they’re wrong. Though working with a wobbly base is something you should never do, you also shouldn’t have a base that super stiff. If you constantly add tape, the bracelet may start to curl if accidentally taped unevenly. This is fixable but it a lot of work and takes a long time to fix. Feel free to add your tips. I hope this helps. |

Colour switches 2.0 are much better than the original. Just check out the tutorial by @2006_Mandy.

Tape your base string down so they don’t move to much.

When there is bordering background color on the left/right sides of your wallhanging, use a separate thread for each side. This will keep your edges much straighter because you are not pulling and dragging the same thread across for each row. It will also save you on thread. 👍

tip 1? do you separate the strands or use them as thick as they are? i’m worried that the yarn full size wouldn’t make small enough knots? or would it be better for tapestry

Thread* is different than crochet yarn. It is thinner but could be seen as thick to some people.

@superme123 for some people yes but to me it was harder to learn because you have to learn 2 new knots, if you have the right knot tension and consistency the normal flat alpha method should work just fine.

I changed my mind about 2.0. I made one pattern with it and the whole thing coma out warped.

No, actually I started the bracelet with 2.0 and that part came out messed up. Then I switched to normal colour switches and it came out much better. If you want to see, look at my pic of #175547.

Yarn or thread - what's the difference? I use crochet thread (or yarn?) for my alphas, it is a lot thinner than the embroidery floss, but the knots turn out the same.

Hello everyone! I’m sorta new to the Bracelet Book but not to knotting. I’ve been mostly working on bracelets n using Normal patterns. I have not tried making an Alpha pattern yet. I’m anxious to learn how to use the Alpha patterns. There are some that are so pretty.I guess that was a long way around to ask, are they hard to learn & use? If anyone has any suggestions on how to start? |

Hello @Iconn338 , some tips I recommend for starting your first alpha is finding a bracelet that only uses 2-4 colors, watching multiple tutorials on the basics of alpha bracelets, working with a good base at a table, and learning the flat alpha technique. Good luck!
