I don’t really know how to measure string for normal bracelets at all. a rough technique would work great.

Mostly I just use my own body to measure. I measure from the fingertips of my left hand to my right shoulder which is about 90cm.I rarely calculate it more accurately for individual strings, but if I do, I use my own formula wich is 45 + percentage of rows in which a string makes a knot of its own colour. |

I cut my string about a meter (I don't measure that much)

Most of the time I cut my strings 130 cm (6 x 130 cm ~ 8 m). Unless I know I need less. The leftovers in a plastic bag (for alphas in the future). I write down on the pattern how much I needed. I really hate when I’ve too few string and have to stop knotting before I think the bracelet is done.

I do my wingspan or a little over my wingspan if it’s folded in half

This might be different depending on your height, but I put the end of my string under my foot, stretch it up, and cut it near the height of my head. It’s a little odd but works well!

Ok so my clipboard is roughly 9 inches long. I measure the string along it (verrrrry loosely) 3 times and that's my general length. Sometimes I do 3½ or 4 times depending on the bracelet, how many times a thread is used, etc. And I usually end up with 2 inches left when I'm done, if all the strings are used equally
