How to get a constant shape

Hello! When I make keychains I struggle with maintaining a rectangular shape all the way down, in the ends tend to spread out and get wider. I do not know what the issue is considering I have fairly tight knots. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for how to maintain a uniform shape?

How many strings are you trying to fit on the keychain clip? Usually when I see this happen it's because there are too many base strings squished onto the clip. This forces all the base strings to be unnaturally close together at the beginning, and no matter what you do, it's going to expand as you move down. Maybe try a bigger clip or a narrower pattern.
