Has anyone used beeswax / paraffin wax for their bracelet strings?

I'm using DMC (6 strand cotton, the kind that unravels for cross stitch purposes) and the strings are starting to unravel a little bit toward the top.

Is adding some wax to the strings a good or a bad idea? Has anyone tried this before? What was the result?

I think it would work well for the square knot bracelets and more macrame style bracelets!

So maybe not so well for embroidery floss maybe? @mrs_jordan

Haha, I wonder if anyone's tried it before!

I tried making a bracelet once with weird waxy string, the knots kept coming undone and I just gave up. It’s wasn’t like embroidery floss, it was like plastic string I guess? I’m not sure. This probably doesn’t even help lol

That sounds like it was frustrating! @_Ederle_ I wonder what the string was and what was on it? Lol

My aunt gave it to me, so I don’t know exactly what it is, but I can show you a picture if that helps.

@_Ederle_ It had some sort of wax on it already right? Not something you put on yourself? 🙂

I'm using dmc and was thinking about putting a layer of beeswax on it but I'm kinda afraid to do it lol.

It’s just store bought I’m pretty sure. It’s not like bees wax, it’s weird slimy plastic string stuff
That sounds kind of weird, but I’ll show you a picture

Ohh I know what that is! We used to call it gimp!
They make good keychains with certain knots!

I've made plenty of these before at camp, I believe it's called the "box" knot:

But there's other nice ones!

I wouldn't recommend mixing these with embroidery floss or yarn or anything, but on their own they make cool things! 😄 @_Ederle_

If anyone is more adventurous than me, please lemme know, I'd love to know how wax and dmc 6 strand do together 😅

In my country it is common to buy rope already with wax, to make bracelets and sew leather it works perfectly, but I wouldn't know how to tell you about the result of combining embroidery thread with wax 😅
maybe I can do an experiment with a piece of leftover string and see the result

I dont if this would help but if any of my embroidery string begins to unravel or break I grab the end of the floss (to gather all threads) and apply a thin layer of clear nail polish! This just helps them stick together and it usually works for me! 😘

Wow! I never thought to use clear nail polish!
If that works for you, then I see no reason why beeswax wouldn't work, either!
I'm just a bit worried that things might stick to the string after the wax is applied or something - like dust and whatnot, but maybe it wouldn't after it dries.

Thank you for the information, it was very helpful! @Jewelknots

@squirrel_ If you happen to try it out, I would be curious to know the result! 😊
