Color switches for alpha's??

Is there any way to make an alpha with a lot of back-to-back color switches look good? I use the flat alpha & straight edges technique but when I do color switches I can sometimes see different colors poking through between knots, even though I use even tension and everything the knots don't seem to want to lay side-by-side. Is there a way to remedy this?

What seemed to help me when I had this issue was to make my knots a little looser, along with once you change the color putting it to the side until you need it again!
