Do the base strings for and alpha have to be the same color as the background color?

I'm a newbie at alphas and I'm trying to learn how to make them, I was just wondering if the base color really mattered? Like can I use any color for the base strings or do they have to be a color from the pattern?

No they don’t so you don’t get confused and start noting with the base string accidentally I would recommend you use a totally different color for base string until you get good at making them then I would start trying same color base strings as background color

no they don’t have to. they don’t even matter at all! they don’t show through the keychain or bracelet! the only thing is i recommend using colors you don’t hate because they do show up in the ties for a bracelet!
