I know everyone has varying knot length and width, but does anyone have advice on how to design an alpha pattern that will end up in a square shape? I have realized that knotting a 50 by 50 pattern, for example, is not likely to result in a square for me as ten of my knots tend to be about a centimeter wide, whereas ten of my rows tend to be 1.6-1.7 centimeters long. Any ideas? The only thing i can think of is that i would need a wider than long pattern but im not great at math so getting confused trying to determine what dimensions should be! |

Based on your ratio, you would need a pattern with 16 or 17 base strings and 10 rows to make a square. You just need to take the amount of rows times 1,6 or 1,7 to get the amount of base strings you would need to make a square. Some things you can experiment with the thickness of your base strings, the tightness of the knots, pushing the rows up using a ruler after each row. Maybe this way you'll figure out what you need to do to get a perfect square when using the same amount of base strings and rows. |
