I use a thicker gauge T pin. The kind for macrame or blocking knit items. The T makes it easier to hold and manipulate and the thickness makes it harder to accidentally split the strands of your thread.

I use a safety pin or my nail to get the second part of the knot undone and then wiggle the thread until the first part comes loose. You can also use a needle or the tip of anything that has a point

ideally, i would use a safety pin or a needle but at my work desk i just use the thumb tacks. i first undo half of the knot then pull out the base string to undo the last knot. I find that to be much easier than splitting strings trying to dig out the second knot. 😇

I really like safety pins or a Circuit weeding tool to untie my knots. With the weeding tool, my string haven't been accidently separated like they have from a safety pin a few times.

I used to use safety pins and thumb tacks and needles and stuff, but then I realized, at least for me, doing that frays the string so easily, and then makes it easier to snap. Which nobody wants. Hence, I try to use my fingers. Ideally, your knots should be the right tightness that with a little bit of effort, you should be able to undo the knot s with minimal trouble
