To get started with alpha patterns I recommend watching a beginner tutorial on them because most of these videos tell you the most important things you have to consider when making alphas. Videos are often a lot more helpful than written out text because they help visualise it.

When making alphas there are two main techniques to make colour switches: the regular colour switch and the flat alpha technique. While the regular colour switch is a little easier to do, the flat alpha technique tends to have nicer results.

Videos I would recommend are the following
- "flat alpha bracelets - beginner tutorial" by MashaKnots https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw
- "the beginner's guide to alphas" by Alex's Innovations https://youtu.be/uWJNn077rTc
- "how to read alpha patterns" by MashaKnots https://youtu.be/ePr81hbvdjE
- "5 alpha bracelet hacks" by MashaKnots https://youtu.be/12pByQvfzeY
- "6 alpha tips and tricks" by Alex's Innovations https://youtu.be/ff7rwAP9jvI
- "10 tips for better alphas" by Megan Morris https://youtu.be/MLw6N2T_NK8

The last three videos are more about improving your alphas and not necessarily beginner videos but I still believe that they could be useful.

When starting with alphas, I highly recommend Masha Knots and Alex's Innovations for tutorials. I also recommend that you know the four types of knots (forward, backward, forward-backword, and backward-froward). This will help with any of the techniques you can use in alphas, such as straight-edge technique and general knotting.
