Plastic canvas size for alpha key chain?

I want to make keychains using plastic cross stitch canvas instead of using the bracelet method. I've seen some on here. What size canvas holes are small enough to fit embroidery floss. Im not trying to but thicker yarn. All the videos on YouTube I've seen use yarn. Therefore, if I use the string I have, it wouldn't fill the holes nicely. Links welcome. Thanks.

The videos that use yarn use the plastic canvas if you choose to use embroidery thread you need to get a special fabric/paper that has the tiny holes I forget what itโs called but embroidery thread doesnโt work with the plastic canvas
