I get confused with forward backward and backward forward knots. And witch one to start with

With a forward backward you do one forward knot (not the norm 2) then move your string to the other side and do the same. Then for backward forward just flip it.

for a fb knot you do one forward knot and then to secure it and keep it in the same place you do a backward knot. vice versa for a bf knot🙂

Go on YouTube and watch a bunch of Friendship Bracelet: Knitted Bracelet videos, I feel like this kind of bracelet is a good way to practice forward-backward knots and backward-forward knots.
