Where is the submit button, and where did my pattern get saved to?

This is wild. When I first began making my alpha pattern, which was several hours ago, there was a submit button, a place to type tags, and a box to type in why the pattern should be accepted if it normally wouldn't be or to type out any other info. Those things are no longer there. I finally finished making the pattern, and when I went to type tags and submit, all those buttons are gone. There was a save button, which I clicked, but nothing else happened. At the top, it says "Draw alpha pattern #4323159". That's all that is said on the page that gives me any clue about what is going on. I click save again, and there is a little white popup that says "Your pattern has been saved" with a checkmark in a green circle in front of the words. I went to patterns and typed in the pattern number and clicked apply, but I'm told "There are no patterns to be shown." I see that patterns should only have 6 digits, but this one has 7. I removed the first digit, but that didn't help and the same for the last digit. I searched my profile and the other buttons next to my avatar, but I found nothing of help. Can someone please tell me what I did wrong? Am I going to lose this pattern? Is it saved, and if so, where do I find? How do I submit this pattern? BTW, I was trying to make a variation of pattern #146725, but I wanted to change the cat completely to look like my kid's cat. I started from scratch but used the same background. I was going to explain this in the box for the mods to read before submitting, but...well, I never had the chance to. Any help is appreciated! |

if i understand correctly, if you go back to the pattern and make sure you are on the first tab, it should be there. just make sure you are not on the draw alpha tab

When save on the 'Draw alpha' page, you just save'update your pattern and is still on the 'Create patterns' page where all your drafts are. If you want publish your design, you need to go to the first page of your pattern, check the copyright box, and click 'submit'.***I highly recommend asking the user you are basing your pattern on if it is okay to copy their background. |

Well, yes. I was still on the draw alpha page. Smart me! ๐ Thanks for the help.As to asking the creator about the background, that is good advice. I assumed because variations were allowed that it was okay to reuse them. I was only changing the color of the cat but used the same design, however, getting permission is the right thing to do, so thank you for bringing this up. I am going to send a message now. THANKS to both of you for your help! |

Variations are acceptable because they are connected to the original pattern. It will always be clear that they are variations and what pattern they belong to. They are not treated as new patterns. Creating a new pattern that isn't a variation, well, it is treated as a new pattern and as a new pattern it isn't automatically connected to the pattern it is based on. That's why it is so important to ask the original creator for permission and to also credit them in the comments once the pattern is accepted. What also needs to be considered, is that he pattern needs to be different enough from the original pattern in order to be acceptable. If only the colouring of the cat was changed, it might not be acceptable. In case it won't be accepted, don't worry. If a pattern is in your drafts, it won't be going anywhere unless you decide to delete the draft. You can still use it for personal use. You can even post a photo to the pattern you based yours on once the bracelet is finished. |

@halokiwi did a great job explaining. ๐I was assuming that you were designing a new pattern based on the original, not a variation that you made by clicking 'make a variation' on the existing pattern. ๐ |

Actually, I keep changing my mind. The possibilities are limited only by imagination! The only bracelets I've made have been simple macrame based ones using yarn, and I've only made two. A few months ago, I came into possession more than 700 skeins of embroidery floss, and although I've always enjoyed embroidery, I decided I want to make a friendship bracelet. I found this site and learned about alpha bracelets, and my brain exploded with so many ideas. I've gone from wanting to make one themed bracelet for my son, to another idea, to yet another. I love the designs here. I've had a brain injury, which has affected my ability to create, to come up with my own ideas, or so I thought! I see something I want to make for him, and then I begin looking into the theme, I learn or see (various colors, nuances) more about it and want to make my own changes. I have actually begun "creating" my own designs...but not actually because I am obviously using someone else's pattern. However, I'm so happy because I haven't been able to do this before now. I have no idea what it is about the bracelets. Or perhaps it is because I want to make something for my son and I know his interests. I am trying to cater to his interests, and I guess this is sparking the creativity I thought I had completely lost. I cannot express how excited and spectacularly overjoyed I am. Unfortunately, I'm still a bit of a dolt and am quite slow understanding and retaining rules and anything that I read or hear, so I ask a lot of questions. But back to what you were saying...I am trying to create a new design based on someone else's design. Thanks for all your help! |

This is so lovely to hear that bracelets are inspiring you so much ๐I remember when I started getting into friendship bracelets, I started seeing patterns everywhere, I was constantly trying to figure out how something I saw could be translated into a pattern, all my university notes had drawn patterns next to them. It seems like that is just the effect that friendship bracelets have. They're truly addicting. I love how universal that experience is. |
