Hi everyone, can anyone explain to me how to read shaped normal patterns like #142821? I know there’s video tutorials but I want to learn how to read such patterns with shapes since I want to make bracelet #100674 but the written tutorial posted here unfortunately left me confused, I failed every time I tried doing it. Any help would be appreciated!

Okay so in that specific pattern you're gonna want to play attention to rows 1, 2, 8-16 and then 22-28 (ik its sounds complicated).

So, for row 1, the B string at the very right is not gonna make a knot only on one A string but both of them and the C string that's next to them. So instead of making the knot on one string you do it on multiple (in this case 3). That's what you do for every shaped pattern.
Next in row 2, instead of the A string (the right one) making a knot only on the other A string you're gonna want it to make the knot on both that one and the C string. You just do that everywhere through 8-16 and then 22-28. I hope this makes sense.
If you need more help I can explain the rest like this too.

Just to make sure you understood me, you aren't making the knots I explained separately on strings (not one-by-one). In row 1 put the A strings and C string together and imagine it as one big string that the B one makes a knot on. I hope that makes it clearer 👍

Oh and I'm talking about #142821, if you need help with the other too I can write that later. Good luck!

@halokiwi If you could just make sure I didn't make a mistake (I'm also new to shaped patterns) that'd be awesome! 😊

Thank you so much @account482 ! I’m sorry I’m quite new could you explain exactly what you mean by A B or C string?

Oh like the colours! In pattern #142821 there's a neon purple which is the C string, violet, which is B and pink which is A! You can see at the top (just before the knots) that the strings have "names" to determine the colours if you get what I mean.

The pattens by @ponotama often don't work by following the pattens because it is often not possible to represent the bracelet as a braceletbook pattern. For this reason I always recommend checking out the video, if you want to tie a pattern by @ponotama

But for #142821 the pattern seems to be quite accurate, so you might be fine with just following the pattern. The left chain is tied around both purple knots, the right chain is tied around both pink strings. The heart is tied according to the pattern without any additional shaping done. You just do the knots for the heart that the pattern tells you to.

If you tell me what confused you about the written tutorial of #100674, I might be able to help. I'm the one who wrote the tutorial.

Basically for this pattern you have to do something that you would usually never do in a normal pattern: you have to knot up and not just down.

When tying the pattern you have to follow the shape of the heart from the indent in the top to the corner at the bottom.

For learning how to tie shaped bracelets, I really really recommend checking out videos for example the ones posted to #76616 for learning how to do the chain part and any video on triangle ends to learn how to shape a bracelet. Shaped bracelets work the same way as triangle ends. (Except the ones where you need to work up and not down or ones that are special in another way)

Small correction: you only make the chain around two strings on either side, not around 3 and 1 or 1 and 3.

In row 2 the a string only makes a knot on one string of colour a (pink), not two strings.

I had a typo:

Not "The left chain is tied around both purple knots, the right chain is tied around both pink strings."

"The left chain is tied around both purple strings, the right chain is tied around both pink strings." is correct.

Thank you both very much, I’ve just had a go at #100674 again using @halokiwi ‘s tutorial and I’m finally getting the knots right, but the shape is coming out kind of like an oval rather than a heart, though I think I’m just placing the knots wrong somehow so I’ll keep trying!
