alpha knots flipping and not tightening correctly.

Hello! So I have two problems I’m suddenly discovering. The first is my knots keep flipping. (Btw I’m making alpha patterns.) I’m holding the base string and pulling the lead string up towards the top of the knot. But whenever I do the knot over flips no matter how tight and even I make my knots. Another problem is that when I’m starting rows I’m tying each knot with equal pressure but each knot is getting looser and further from the pattern in a way. It’s getting quite frustrating because I didn’t have this problem when using craft cord (I’m using embroidery floss now) any tips? Thank you!!
