I'm very far into an alpha I'm making, when one of my base strings snapped. I know how to fix snapped strings in normal patterns by cutting a new one and using that one instead. Does that work on base strings too?

I would just cut a new one and start tying on that and leave the old one out!

I think so, but you might want to keep the new base string taped down until you either finish the bracelet or you’ve made like at least ten rows onto it. Otherwise you might accidentally pull it out because you won’t have actually knotted with it, just onto it

I know that there is a way to insert base strings into an alpha, but unfortunately it isn't very popular, and I don't know it 🙁 I would make the rows, and when your working string reaches the gap where the string snapped, tie a new string onto the working string. This has worked for me in the past, but does appear as one knot of a different colour (e.g the colour of the base string ontop of the working string, because that's essentially what it is.) so I would suggest you make the colour of the base string you're attaching the same colour as your working string. Hope this is clear, and it helps! 🙂

Even though I am not an expert at alpha bracelets, I would cut everything ( base strings, leading strings) and and add another base string, AKA: replace the snapped base string and start again . I hope this helped 😉 !

It happened to me before, all you do is when you have to knot onto the snapped thread, just knot with a new thread of the same color instead, then when you have finished the bracelet tie the two ends of the thread (the end of the snapped one and the beginning of the new one) together and tuck them into the bracelet. Just make sure that you secure the new thread down when you started knotting with it, otherwise it will just pull out and undo the knots you just did, which is frustrating.
