Is there a way to replace base strings for alphas. Either they got to short or snapped.

Maybe just try tying over a new one and leaving the old one out

what I've done is I will tie with next knot over both the last little part of the original string and the new string until the original runs out, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference just make sure you tie the knots tight enough

My base strings snap a LOT. What I do is twist the old base string and a new base string together and then I just continue knotting. Also you can tape the new string to the backside of the bracelet.
