Alpha Straight edges leaving space in my bracelet

I learned the straight edges method a while back, but I’ve only used it twice. One was a pattern of some lemons (I don’t remember the number) and the other was a name bracelet. The lemon bracelet turned out okay, but occasionally I would have to knot the sides an extra time or there would be space where my base string was visible. The second time was a disaster and I had to start again completely. The lack of knots on the outside and the middle didn’t add up so my bracelet had huge spaces on the outside where the base was visible. It also messed up the letters in the pattern somehow. I don’t know how people use it and have their bracelets turn out so great. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong here.

You could be using two different thicknesses of string or you could be tieing your knots tighter on the ends then in the middle I have the same problem

Is there anything specific you suggest to get my knots consistent, or do you think I just need to pay better attention while I’m knotting?

You need to do two bf or fb knots on each edge, not one

oh my gosh that happened to me! but what i do, is on the left side do your backward-forward knot as usual, but do a first half of a backward knot, and on the right side i do my forward-backward knot, with the first half of a backward knot. this really helps!! tell me if it helps. ! 🙂

What @madeleine_ said is right. You have to do two bf or fb knots right after each other because you're replacing two knots with them. I've written a tutorial on the straight edges technique in which you can see a sketch I've made that shows this too. You can find the tutorial in the tutorial section.
