A couple of days ago, I made an alpha keychain of a tennis ball. When I finished the pattern, the tennis ball looked like a lemon because my long knots were stretching out the pattern. Any tips on how to make my knots shorter??

I have this same problem. Round things look oval in alphas. I don't have any idea, but all I can think of is knot tension. Maybe try tying your knots tighter maybe they would become shorter.

I also had the problem, I always have tied my knots really tight and it does make a minor difference but I advice adjusting the know with you nail and making it more the shape you want it. I hope this helps?! 😊

I have only ever made one alpha so take this with a grain of salt. What helped me with the shape of my alpha was I was using the flat alpha technique and whenever I switched colors I made sure that I tied the first half of the knot pretty loosely then made the second half as tight as I normally do. It wasn't a perfect fix but it did help. I also pushed it up with my nail. I'm sorry if this didn't help, like I said I really know hardly anything about alphas. That was just my experience.

There is no way to really solve this because your nots will not be an exact square like in the grid of the pattern. Some ways to make your knots more square is to tie your knots tight. You want to make sure that the first knot is tight because if the first knot isn't tight the second knot will be tight. Another way you can make your knots more square is pushing them up with your nail. I personally do the nail thing but it still makes my patterns circle more like an oval. I hope this helps your problem.

I would recommend the “flat alpha” technique by Masha Knots. I get annoyed when people direct others towards videos but there’s no way I can explain it as it’s very visual 🙂
