Hi, I measure my string by arms length, (double arms length if I’m going to be folding them in half) and I find that for some (a lot) of bracelets I do, I end up not being able to finish because my strings aren’t long enough. Do you guys have like a general length you cut for all bracelets? Or is their a way to tell how long I need based on the pattern? I could really use the help.

Hi! I don't have another way of measuring, i just add a little bit more than my arms length, maybe 15cm(for one arm, if i fold the strings I add 30cm). If i run out of string i just replace the strings (you can find tutorials on how to do that). But my problem is that i always end up with a lot of extra strings so yeah... scraps for alphas i guess. I hope that this helps!

I think I might start to try to do wingspan instead, and see if that gives me enough

a general measure for string length is about a meter long. or, if making a loop, 2 meters. I personally never actually measure the strings, I just approximate. I also measure using my arms. most of the time I make loops for my bracelets, to do this I measure a little over a wingspan length of thread which gives me about two meters. given, I am over six feet tall, so my wingspan is pretty long. and obviously half of that length if I'm not doing a loop.if I am using an entire skein of thread, I just cut it into measurements. given that you have an 8 meter skein, you could cut it into fourths to give you two meter long strands. or into eighths to give you one meter long strands. to do this, I unwind the entire skein, then fold and cut it in half a few times. if you are using an arms length of thread now and its too short, try measuring to the center of your chest rather than just your arm, or even to the opposite shoulder. I would always recommend you cut more string than you think you need, because its better to have leftovers than to run out. hope this helps. |

As a general rule I make my string 1 metre (or two if you fold them in half) and for me, i made pattern #40745 and my black was only just enough at a one metre length, but I had a lot of white and orange left. So if you notice that in a pattern there is very little of a colour, you can shorten it but for me 1 metre is like the 'safe length' where i wont run out. Note: the knotted part of my bracelets (not the closure) is usually around 12 cm long.

@loshluf Completly agree with you 👍 👍 👍 👍 , I do also 100 cm = 1 meter and soms 120 cm = 1.20 meter, to be able to tie them 😉 with this 20 cm I make a braid or a loop and two braids to tie my bracelet 👍 ❤️
