Hello!I know that this community primarily focuses on normal or alpha bracelets, but I thought I'd ask a question regarding kumihimos in case anyone has some advice. I recently started making a pouch and wanted to make a kumihimo closure, however I'm running low on black string and want to make sure I get the length as accurate as possible so I don't end up wasting thread. I need the closure to be roughly 1 foot long, so if anyone has some advice on how long to cut the threads that'd be great! Thank you! ❤️ |

I've been experimenting with kumihimo as well, I'm not an expert by any means but here are a few things I picked up:I made a bunch of kumihimo (with 24 and 32 strings) all with the same thread length of 1ft and found that the kumihimo itself was only 13-14cm in length, as I use the remaining string to tie up a finishing knot the size of the kumihimo-disk effects how much string you need, so you have to take into account that you will have extra string lengths that cannot form into the Japanese braid because it's needed to secure the position of the braid. I have several different types of disks, and I find that the string I "lose" is equivalent to the radius of the disk you use and the thickness of the disk itself (especially with higher slots foam ones). Also, putting weights (something that's ~2oz to attach to ends of kumihimo as you make it) or stretching the finish kumihimo helps make the whole thing a bit longer, adding about 1-2cm in length hopefully this can help you, i hope it goes well @periwinkle ! |
