i was wondering if anyone has any tips on starting large alphas? i've made alphas before but only thin ones, and now the pattern is like to try has a very large number of base strings. (to be clear, i'm talking 50+) starting with a knot isn't really an option because the number of base strings would cause the knot to be very large and take up too much string, plus the first rows wouldn't be able to lay flat. i don't know how starting with a loop would work without triangle ends because of the number of strings, and i'd rather not do triangle ends because they'd take up too much space. i know taping it down is an option, but i've personally never had much luck with that method, even on smaller bracelets. if you make large alphas, how do you usually go about starting them? |

@aaasherr when I make larger alphas, which I donโt do that large mine are around half that but Iโm sure it will work, I tape the strings down to a clip board then put binder clips over the tape it seems to work pretty well and if you need to you can tie small knots at the tops of the strings to help them stay in place Iโve also seen people wrap them around toothpicks or short wooden rods and make their bracelets that way to hang it on a wall

Not sure if this works for you, but before I learned triangle ends I used to tie I loose knot and then farther down on the string when they all can lay side by side carefully make a row of knots. After a few rows I would undo the knot at the top. Not sure if that helps or makes sense, hope it does ๐ I also agree with what the OP said about starting it on a toothpick or wooden dowel, which would probably be the best method ๐
